Would you ever replace your rig with a 4Runner?

I've been wondering what I will do when my cruiser dies, assuming it ever dies. Currently going strong with 230k.

Looking at the new cruisers, I think I'd opt for a new 4Runner as a replacement to my 100 series instead of a 200. Or maybe I'll track down a super low mileage 100 :)

Any thoughts? Have any of you tried the 4Runner. How is it compared to the 100's.

Nope. Less than a year ago I bought my 2000 LX470 and was directly comparing It to a brand new gen 5 4Runner. Doesn't hold a candle to comfort, head room (I'm 6'3) or the quality of interior trim. The new 4Runner feels cheep. The material sucks, my wife said it felt like a knockoff product.

Wow that's really good to hear.

I had and 80 series that I sold then went to an 05 runner, great truck. Have a lot of great things to say about it but it was not built like a cruiser. Slam the door and you will know what I mean. It went down hill from there as I went to a taco , great for what it is but the cruiser!, even an older one is by far better, IMO. I just went back to a cruiser(100 series) because I miss feeling like I am driving a tank and the comfort is second to none . The 100s are heavy and you do notice it when your stepping on the gas compared to a 4Runner. My 4Runner was the 4.7. You will get better mpg but hell we don't buy cruises for the mpg right? The cruiser has more room, better on road manners and I personally think the cruisers are by far better on the trails.

^ there is a reason these were $60k flagship vehicles for Toyota.

Nope.

I tried that with a shiny new 4th gen 4runner (V8, 4x4, Limited) about 12 years ago, when I replaced my 80 series. A nice vehicle, but not a Land Cruiser. I did end up going back to the Land Cruiser with a 100 series.

A little over a year ago, we looked at a 5th gen 4runner for my son. Took it home, drove it a couple of days, took it back and bought a used (100 series) Land Cruiser instead. Again not a bad vehicle, but still not a Land Cruiser.

At some point I'll probably end up in a 200, but for now I'm going to keep driving my 100 until the wheels fall off.

I have NO intention of ever parting with my 100... but last week, I rode in a 2016 4Runner Limited. It was smoother and quieter than my 100 - not even close. Sure, mine's 10 years older, and has 108,000 miles... and it's lifted... and it's on E-rated 33s. But, I was impressed with the 4Runner.

The 100 is a great truck. But, it's not infallible and immune to failure. And the 4Runner is a Toyota on the Prado platform. It's a solid truck. If my 100 were stolen or totaled tomorrow... I'd definitely consider a 2016 4Runner... while trying to find a rust-free, sub-100k 06/07 100

We tried a brand new 4Runner Limited when looking for my wife's new vehicle this summer - ended up spending $20k more for the GX460 (Land Cruiser Prado) - the LC is just a more refined vehicle. There's a reason it's nearly 2x the price of the 4Runner...

I will replace my 100 if I ever do with another 100s so that all most of my mods will move over. I doubt I will be able to find a 200 for a price I could live with and then to mod it and wheel it (not going to happen). The 5th gen is nice and will have lots of support later but if I was going to retool and start over it would be in I dare say jeep wrangler 4 door..... come on toyota bring me the 70s....

We looked at 4Runner when we were looking for SUV. 4Runner is just too small for what we need. Overall, I think LC handles better. It is not as nimble and has slower acceleration because it is a larger vehicle, but it just feels solid to me (hard to describe, but driving it back to back, and the difference is noticeable). We also like the seat in LC a lot. Very comfy for us in long trips. If I need to replace my LC, I would either move up from my 98 LC to newer, less miles 100 series, or 200 series. 200 series seems to be longer by a lot, so not sure how it will fit in the garage.

Good question for thought. I am actually replacing my 80 somewhat reluctantly and going to the 100. Haven't considered going to the 4runner and I don't really know why other than it is "just not a Land Cruiser." Maybe I'm just hard-headed...

^ and twice the price of a 4Runner (said by a guy who has owned two 4Runners).

Now if you want something in the Toyota family yet even cruder, try a spin in a FJ Cruiser (although my wife loves the truck-ness feel of thing).

IMHO a 2008 4Runner is to a 2014 FJ as my 2000 LX is to the 2008 4 Runner.

I should explain that when we were shopping and comparing LC/LX vs other SUV, including 4Runner, we do consider price as one of the deciding factor. So for X price, would we get an LC/LX or a 4Runner or something else. What is the best deal/sweet spot for what we need. The answer for us was very clear.

I've considered a new 4Runner, but would rather stick with my 15 year old cruiser until I can afford to buy a newer cruiser. The 4Runner is nice, but it just doesn't compare to a cruiser, in my opinion. Bummer that a new lc is 85k tho'

Echo on the 85k. Wow!
