Was super excited to get this 2016 from down near San Antonio — but ended up getting rear ended during the test drive.

So damn bummed, but absolutely grateful nothing worse happened.

Would absolutely appreciate any help hunting another down. Hoping for a 2016 and between $50-60k for budget. This one was 169k miles for $51k.

Thanks y’all.

Wow, sorry that happened to you. How did it go down? And how did the salesman/dealer react?

Reminds me of the time I test drove a Porsche 911 turbo. Dealer let me take it out alone. When accelerating onto the freeway, a main coolant pipe let go, emptying 22.5L in a few seconds. Got it off the freeway and shut her down so as not to overheat the $$$$ motor. Called and I was probably a couple miles away and dealer said to just gently drive her back. Asked are you sure? It's also 110°F in Arizona. Drove it back with temp gauge just getting into the red. Said I'm not buying that one.

The dealer was really good about it. Not just saying it…but I had zero options to avoid it getting hit. We were on a ramp, in a construction zone, waiting to merge onto a highway — loaded with cars and tractor trailers going 65+ mph. While waiting to merge into traffic, a 2003 Tacoma flew down the ramp (not paying attention), slammed on his brakes and slid into us. Pretty sure he was going 30-40mph when he hit us. We were no more than 1 foot from getting hit by a tractor trailer in the lane we needed to merge into. First accident I’ve ever been in too. Thankfully the other drivers insurance already accepted 100% fault at least.

Crappy part is I sold my 2006 Sequoia last night to use those funds towards buying this….so now I don’t have a car.

Just hoping this is one of those situations where something better comes along.

Glad no one was hurt. Why not still buy that one? Have the dealer fix it or have it fixed yourself. Damage doesn’t look like it’s into the frame or anything.

Or maybe a screaming deal on a recently repaired one?

Dang, sorry to hear. There are a few late model facelift 200s up here in dallas posted on Craigslist. Maybe one you see would work? Good luck with your search.

Dam if I was selling I would sell you my 16 with 67k for 60.

A quick Autotrader shows two available nationwide for 2016+ and under $60K; like others have mentioned, if the damage is purely cosmetic it could be worthwhile to still pursue this one after they repair it for a further discount.

I agree, the rear bumper is plastic If I am not mistaken you can get a Toyota replacement that comes painted for 850. And its an easy removal and reinstall if it's anything like the front (did a front replacement). Hell I'll have a blizzard pearl rear bumper available once I get a rear replacement from trail tailor.

It looks like more than a rear bumper is needed. I wouldn’t consider buying it either. The rear tailgate could have ongoing issues even after a repair and I really wouldn’t want to start out with a car that was in an accident.

Sounds like a successful test drive to me! Not many folks get to test out how it does in an accident. Clearly, it’s a tank - especially if that’s a 40mph hit.

What did Tacoma look like?
Pretty sure the Tacoma will be totaled. I’d say it was somewhere between 30 and 40mph though….or it at least felt like it. He was going fast enough to leave more than 20ft of skid marks.

Yeah, unfortunately both parts of the tailgate need work for sure. It was already not letting me open it easily.

The dealership decided to keep it as a shuttle vehicle now btw.

I know it sounds weird / lame…but the whole experience just had bad juju. Was hard to feel good about spending that kind of money too for something that would now have 3 accidents.

Update…

The universe corrected itself and I found a new listing late last night that didn’t even have photos yet — just got traded in (on a new Bronco).

Anyway, this one was $5k more, but is a one owner vehicle, and has 60k less miles — it’s at 108k miles.

So pumped. Been wanting one of these for a while.

A Bronco? I like to see "win win" but seriously, a Ford for a Toyota Land Cruiser? :bang:
Alrighty then. :meh:

Looks like it has spacers and tires?

It was clearly meant to be!

Yeah, those definitely aren't the stock tires (which is a change I need to make on mine...). I usually wait to wear out the stock tires before making a swap, but this working from home thing means it will take me years to wear out the stock tires.

Congrats @JASATX - based on that one photo, it looks like you found one in great shape. I think it's well worth paying $5k more for 60k fewer miles. Does it also have no accidents? If so, that's a big plus too.

Thanks! Really happy with it. 1 owner with 1 minor rear end accident. It’s super clean though — couple dings here and there. Going to spend a lot of time talking to it today though, so I’ll report back if anything pops up. 👍🤙👍
