good to have supporting cruiserheads around, good thing.
Sad situation, glad you got out okay with the kiddos.
I cant wait to see the pictures, as i'm having a scene in my head how this looks.
Hope the rig is in good shape.
I've left my previous 4runner in the bush for two days when i twisted a driveshaft, but here on the countryside no one bothers to steal stuff out of rigs stranded.

Once on a trip gone bad i bogged down without a winch, took 5 hours to get help from fellow built rigs, and they could not get into where i was, so as a last resort i used a hilift as a winch.
the eye on top of the hilift snapped, hilift exploded into my hip turnig it to pieces. bad night.

So just be careful and find a good solution, good luck!
Be careful when joining straps together, avoid using shackles.

TLC - thanks for the advice.

i saw my hilift's top piece says 5000 pound rating...

about joining straps, if not with shackles, how do you recommend?

Thanks.

Look at this site, enough said. I've seen shackles go through a radiator.

Instead of a towel, i use a magazine or newspaper.
If you dont have anything inside the joint, the two straps are VERY hard to get loose. Prying it with a screwdriver would help to get it loose, but then again you could damage the strap.
Having a newspaper, magazine or solid piece of wood makes is a bit easier.
If you use iex a woodpice, its a potential projectile. lay a carpet over the joint when it's secured, so the carpet would slow down any flying objects.

Be glad to help out. I have LC, straps. winch, and a camera. 804.479.2972

No drama. The sun had melted off some of the snow and softened up the rest. Jesse and I were able to drive right down to his truck--she started right up and drove out without even chaining up. Some seriously steep country back there though. 10 degrees colder and we would still be back there.

Best 2nd day off road with a LC ?

This thread is pretty much the definition of anticlimactic.
But I'm glad you got your truck back with no issues.

LOL - that's actually what I said when we pulled up and regrouped at the top of 'hill 4'

"well, that was pleasantly anticlimactic"

Seriously, the sun did wonders. The northern stretches of the not steepest sections down hill (when going north) still had 0.5 - 1" of snow (when they had barely any more before) so the shallow angle to the sun = practically no snow melt on those stretches --- that left for 2 nice switch backs with white stuff. The only place we did any slight slipping.

the part that impeded me before, being after a switchback, faced east and thankfully took on the sun these last few days and was amazingly just wet.

so we got to enjoy the views, sunshine and mild temps.

The best part was meeting Dan, Layton, and Jesse. Jon came through with a winch loan, too, and others were offering for Saturday.

Like Dan said: "I didn't even get my tools dirty". I was relieved that the LC had no break-in or damage.

The terrain is steep, and as long as there's friction, it's passable. Today we had traction so all's well.

For you pic hounds, since we didn't have to stop on the uphill's that eliminated any interesting recovery shots. The view was great, as usual, and I took some LCs-in-a-row shots on my iphone but the backlighting made them near worthless, i'll see if one is salvagable and add it here.

Thank you again to those that helped out via PM, posting, and of course those that took time out of their day and were prepared to hump in chains and winch/pull in the name of LC fellowship.

Is this the "state line trail" or land that you own?

That's what it's all about....may the affliction of Land Cruiser ownership continue to make us stronger.

see....when you go wheeling with multiple vehicles, you don't have to leave your vehicle :grinpimp:

bk - too true. Been there many times all but once solo in my own vehicle, so it's a habit to break.

the additional upside to all of this, beyond the things posted above:

my :princess: said: "wow, these LC guys really came through, I'm glad you got an LC instead of something else"

so in the name of when in rome..... :flipoff2:

Is this the "state line trail" or land that you own?

It's private land, to the NE corner where the state line is, there's a PATC maintained hiking trail. On the powerlines to the north ATVs rip it up, but I assume that's land owned by the power company.

The LC's that took me in, drove the length of what was pictured in the aerial view on page 1. there's not too much too it, no loops, etc. just an out and back with a view:

Yes, truly disappointing.... Very glad it all worked out for you

I really miss Western Virginia. I grew up there and now I'm stuck down here in the low lands. I'll be back west one o' these days. Glad you made it out and the recovery was uneventful.
