My family will be out of town and I will be putting a transmission in the 80..
Anyone is more than welcome to come work on thier rigs, help me or just point and laugh.
At the very least expect some fun texts and late night calls.
(who did I miss last time?)

When is mlk?

I believe you have my #.

via mobile app.

Did you get a rebuilt one from somewhere or are you swapping in a known good used one (transmission)?

Sounds like a lot of fun. Does the transfer case separate from the transmission without having to split the case like you do on a 60? I've never worked on an 80.

Hope everything goes smooth and you have some type of transmission jack.

IIRC the transfer case on all 80's are the same and only 7 bolts from the tranny. fairly easy to swap out. except the upper most bolt that I think goes in backwards (facing the rear of the vehicle). But the xfer case is sealed and can be pulled without any fluids getting errywhere.

I'll help if it's not balls cold like it is out this weekend...

at least as of now the forecast is clear this weekend....

ordered rear main seal last night; hope it makes it in time.

no press at my house..
Someone near me does.
Do you need one?
I don't think there is a need for the rear main.

What day(s) are you talking? Saturday? Monday?

I have ironman bushings that need to be installed. That's why I was asking about the press.

thats too bad, I was hoping to get those seats from him.

I printed the ironman bushing PDF Paul posted in the 80 section.

anyone else in? If Clank can get the press Ill come up and see if I can get these bushings swapped out.

Paul do you remember how long of a job it is to do the adjustable bushings? I also have new bushings for the rear (control arm to frame)

It was a lot longer to get them swapped out than it was to do the springs. I actually took 2 weekends to do it the first weekend to do out wrong and the second weekend to line them up right. I used a drill on the old bushings rubber and then got a sawzall blade down in there and cut it loose. Once they were out I greased up the new ones and slid them in while it was sitting on the ironman print out and tapped them in.

What took so long on the first weekend was that I didn't print the ironman sheet out life size and was trying to line it up by eye. The second weekend took about 2 hours, but that was pulling them back of the truck, knocking the ironman ones out with a hammer and starting over. Add about 45-1 hour to cut the old bushings out if you don't have Matts press.

If you're stock ones are good I might trade you mine (if you're interested).
I have OME yellows.
Matt and I are talking about trying an experiment.

you mean just swap control arms?

I dont know what shape my stock bushings are in. I have a complete ironman bushing set + ironman caster bushings NIB. I will have ironman stock caster bushings left over from the complete set...

Hmm.. Yeah I meant control arms..

If Eric still has his old control arms and we could all just play controlarm musical chairs I would have my OEM bushings and NIB replacement ironman ones. Id gladly trade either for help installing the adjustable bushings.
