Hey all,

I have a rare three weeks off and thinking about taking the family on a road/off road trip in our semi built ( winch, lift, good tires) 100 series. The problem is that its the middle of winter and we have two children under 3 years old.

How far west and or south do we need to go to get into some warm climates that we can do some good camping/exploring? Id love to get as far west as the four corner region. We live in New York, so the southwest is a pretty long haul...but we really want to get to that region.

Any suggestions on routes or destinations would be very much appreciated. Thanks !

I can only suggest Moab, Utah at this time of the year. Yeah, long haul but you could take the southern route through New Mexico, Santa Fe, over to 4 Corners and north. Probably minimum snow. But it will be cold all the way. But that's a lot of driving in the winter. Good luck!

Otherwise you need to come to SoCal for the weather you seek. The Mojave Rd, Anza Borrego, Death Valley etc. Cooler weather aside Moab is still an unbelievable place and with the strange weather there, you just may get a warm day or two.

It's tough with little ones, and for my crew, it would have to be a fairly warm climate for camping.

Why not head South (and East a little) to the Great Smokies and stay in a cabin for several nights? You can basecamp out of there and explore the mountains and backroads by day. Although, I realize that can be a little expensive, but your in the off season so rates should be a bit lower.

I suppose it all depends on what your family likes, but my wife isn't one for "roughing it" in good weather, let alone winter.
