The factory electrical wiring diagram book calls it the "wiper de-icing" feature, so it makes sense that you still carry that scraper. Better to have it and not need it, etc.

I think it just helps with getting the blade unstuck from the windshield prior to moving them, so you don't necessarily rip the rubber off the wiper blade. Oh, and my 2010 LX has them too. Funny... I had not looked at the climate screen and was like, "Oh, well this is new...".

LCHardriver is spot on with this. It is not meant to thaw your entire windscreen, but instead ensure that your wiper blade will be able to move freely if ice has accumulated. I find that those who don't have this feature, in ND anyway, raiser their wiper arms if they leave their vehicles outside for extended periods of time.
 
Mine isn't working. I've troubleshooted far enough to see that the relay is getting energized properly when the de-icer is enabled. However, I'm not seeing voltage across the contact side of the relay which would seem to indicate that the circuit to the windshield is open. Anyone know where the windshield's de-icer cable connects to the windshield?
