I'd like to add bumpers and tie downs for my 25 windshield. It looks like it would be pretty easy, but has anyone done this? Is there reinforcement needed in the hood?

Are the parts available?

thx, Eric

Yeah Eric,

Marv at SOR has the FJ25 Bumpers, and I'm sure he has the tie downs too. I just checked out a pic of your rig and never noticed yours were missing. Doesn't look like your hood ever had them. You don't need any reinforcement under the hood, and if you need exact locations for the holes, just let me know.
Just a reminder, if you haven't already bought the 25 bib lights he has them too.

So what've you been doing to the 25 lately?

Hi Eric
I think I talked to you back when you lived in Phoenix. I belonged to the local club for a year or two back around 97. The other thing your going to need is the tab that is fastened to the hood to the hold tie down when not being use. I checked the only 25 I have in Phoenix (I have four) and the tab is riveted to the hood, on the 40s they were spot welded until 75 when the wipers were moved to the bottom of the windshield and they changed the whole set up. The tabs on aprons are the same but spot welded. So these tabs can come off any hood until 75 or off any apron. SOR might even sell them. If I can help let me know.

My rig never had them, assuming my hood is stock. I would like to add them, but it's not a priority. I forgot about the tab on the hood. Those probably are not available, I imagine. I'll have to fab something up.

I'm going to get bib lights and a side mirror for the rig plus poly body mounts. I have a 350 that needs some clean up before I install it. I need to clean the frame out and weld in the AA motor mounts. Any tips on that would be appreciated. Then I need to do the front SO and figure out what I'm going to do for steering. It will be a 25 in body and frame only :). Still need a T-bird ;).

John, Are you still in the club?

I think your right. I'm sure the early hard tops weren't designed to removed like the 64 and later. I bought a 63 hard top out of a junk yard for parts and it still has high pillar behind the door and no provision for installing a soft top. So I think just the soft tops had the tie downs and bumper pads. About 64 they made both hard and soft top universal. Soft top could have a hard top bolt on and Hard top could get the optional OEM soft top and just bolt on.

No I don't belong to that club any. When I was in I think Brad was pres. A guy named Steve who was the pilot for Discount Tire was very involved. Meetings were in Scottsdale at some private school. I located a 94 with lockers at Riteway and I thougth it was you and Brad who picked them up? I don't think it was Joe Shott because he Already had lockers. I pretty good friends with Miles Brown, but I don't see him much anymore since he moved to Globe.

I forgot about the tabs too. If you want it to look stock, I'd just pick up a hammered pair of aprons and remove the tabs. If you don't have any avaliable, I could look for you at SOR, I'm sure marv has plenty.

Eric,
Was over at Mark's Off Road putting a clutch in the LV yesterday and found out he has the FJ25 clear bib and red tail light lenses too.

hard tops didn't have the window hold downs, just the soft tops, at least the early to 65 fj40's, I will assume the 25's were the same.

also, if no hold downs on the hood, no loops on the top of the window to attach the hold downs to.

Steve asked me for these dimensions to put bumpers and hooks on his hardtop. Thought this would be the best place for them.

don't know if 25's are the same, but my oem hardtop 65 fj40 has the undrilled hood, but if you look at the underside, you can plainly see where the holes would be drilled.
