Has anyone had their 200 series windshield replaced in the Chicago area and have someone they can recommend? Will push to get OEM glass, but have read the threads here saying the installation has a few gotchas and the installer makes all the difference. Thanks!

I have had a lot of work done at Fix Auto Chicago, 4700 W. Fullerton.

McGrath Lexus sends all their body work there and they see a ton of Lexus/Toyota, super attention to detail. I've always thought I'd trust them with a windshield on my 100 or 200. Jack Chamiga is the guy I've worked with.

If its something like a crack or chip I took my windshield to aaron glass and they got it repaired for $60. It's been holding well. From my experience replacing the windshield is a bigger hassle as its going to chip within 1-2 years so it's not going to be perfect. If it doesn't obstruct driver's view or is an eye sore I would live with it. Too many rocks flying around on the highways at high speed.

Can something like this be repaired? It goes all the way to the edge of the glass where the windshield meets the roof.

Call Highland Park Lexus. I used their installer on my 14 LX and the job is flawless. Lexus ordered OEM glass and installer took care of it. You’re in a large metropolitan area and finding a reputable shop should be easy seeing the cars that regularly drive around Chicagoland.

FYI Safelite was like $375 and dealer was $1475. StateFarm cut me a check for $9XX.

you might have had a chance if you caught it early. my crack was about 2", the filled it and I can't see it now.

I had my windshield replaced last week, used a local place that I trust (never SafeLite). When I was making the appointment, they said that it would be a Pilkington, which I refused. They called State Farm, and OEM Toyota glass was approved, no hassle.

I have to have my windshield replaced for a second time insurance set up with safeLite already to give me OEM but I haven't had it done yet. I had SafeLite replace it the first time an no issues with that installation. Somehow on a recent trip from CO to AL I got a rock chip that expanded into a large crack during the day so no time to fix before it was too large.

So At least one data point for safeLite being okay, I know there a plenty of horror stories related to windshield replacements here, but thought I'd offer one where it was fine going with SafeLite.

**** Safelite. 10 years later on my meticulously maintained 4Runner. Filing a claim for absolute piss poor workmanship when this was done in 2009. Truck was only 14 months old at the time.

Yikes! This is what I am hoping to avoid. Will check in to Highland Park Lexus. Any chance you know the name of your installer?

@04UZJ100 Will defintely avoid Safelite in future after seeing these photos

Don’t recall. They mentioned they use one shop. LX are extremely common around that area so installer likely has experience with it (they did mine with dealer supplied OEM glass)

After seeing those pictures I'll be calling my insurance and getting a different installer for my replacement. Thanks for sharing that!

FüCK safelite, completely botched my windshield too, this was after they failed to show on my appointment date because they forgot to put the glass on the van.

I used to know an installer, and he told me OEM was the way to go. Better quality glass.

@electro992 DnB Auto Glass or AA Auto Glass in Villa Park do a good job (couple of my friends used them). These shops prefer using Pilkington glass which I believe is also used by Toyota.

Also I bet Lexus in Highland Park will do a good job too.
