Windshield Moldings A-Pillar non-reusable? (1 Viewer)

I'm going to be changing out the moldings, the four clips / rivets along the window and the two clips on the roof.

I'm curious though, how are folks removing the rivets. I assume they're being drilled out? What happens to the blind side of the rivet after drilling out the retained mandrel? Does it fall into the a-frame somewhere where it can be collected? I'm concerned that it may rattle around in the car if I can't get it out.

Thanks.

The rivets don’t need to be replaced on a 200, in fact usually the white plastic clips are also fine, though replacing those just means cutting them off the rivet.

We don’t have the leak issues of the 100-series (at the rivets)

If you haven’t already done so, source a flexible epoxy for the clips on the roof. I used some stuff made by Total Boat and it has held up for 7 years including a windshield replacement and trim removal. The tech was surprised they didn’t come off with the trim.

Thanks! Great tip. I'll try to re-use the rivets.

Regarding the adhesive for the clips,
I used some stuff made by Total Boat
I followed the manual and got some 3M DP-105 epoxy adhesive and associated 3M EC-3901 adhesive primer. It's the primer that is very expensive but I was able to purchase a bulk box of 8x 1/2 pint containers of the stuff from Ebay for a very good price. Obviously I don't need so much, so If anyone needs some let me know.

Well done. I’ve still got the little 4oz bottles of the total boat stuff so I don’t need any, but I’m sure others might come along.

Thanks for offering to us

I removed my driver side moulding today and the two metals clips popped off with the OEM adhesive.

@comfycloak - If you still have some extra adhesive and the associated primer, please DM me and happy to contribute.
