Need your input.

About 4 weeks ago I started noticing a winding sound/ feel when I was accelerating like it is winding up under the front end. I can sort-of feel it thru the peddle and steering wheel. As I slow down it winds down. The best way to describe the sound is A/T tires making the howling sound.

I have relatively new Michelin tires on it. They were rotated at 10k miles (apparently I should rotate every 6k miles). I recently took it to the local Toyota dealership for break pads and asked them to look for a cause of the winding and they said my tires aren't wearing evenly and aren't round. Could this be the cause or could it have something to do with the drivetrain??

I had (have) a similar issue. Thanks to the fine folks here on the forum, I can chalk it up to cold weather and the diff oil just not warmed up yet. Mine only happens the first 1/4-1/2 mile. Then sorts itself out as soon as everything gets a little heat built up. I only notice it when it's below 40 degrees, and it's too the point now I have nearly tuned it out.

I wish mine was due to cooler weather but I am in Mississippi where it does not get very cold. Plus it is garaged and it doesn't stop in warmer weather nor when the vehicle is completely warmed up. I am taking it to the tire place today ... hopefully it is a bad set of tires.

The 100 has a mechanical pump for the center diff to circulate fluid (how cool is that!). When she's cold you'll hear a wine coming from that box.

You'll also hear a bit of piston slap on cold mornings. Both of mine do this below about 40F. Completely normal. Has to do with expansion rates of different materials. Should go away in about 30 sec of running.

I took it to a mechanic yesterday and he said my front wheel bearings are bad... Hopefully after I replace those it will stop.

That is cool about the center diff pump but mine does this consistently despite warm temperatures and continues no matter how long I drive it for.
