Every once in a while when I am driving down the highway with the driver's side window open, all the inside lights will come on and i will get a message that the rear gate is open (complete with very annoying dinging sound). when i close the window it stops, or if i open one of the other rear windows it stops.

The dealer could not find an issue. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Does anyone know where the sensor is on the back hatch that alerts the truck that the gate is open?

Thanks

That's not a good thing at all. Sounds like the wind is pushing the rear hatch open a bit. Perhaps there is an adjustment on the latches to make it a bit more snug.

What year is your cruiser and how many miles? Was it ever in an accident?

its a 2010, never been in an accident. i had my son push on the rear gate from the inside while the truck is standing still, but nothing happened. it only happens on the highway with the window open.

Your truck is a 2010. It is under warranty. Keep hounding them till they find and fix the issue. Don't settle for anything less.

my truck was out of warranty just over year in due to mileage. what a joke! fortunately i had brought up the issue early on and the dealer had it in their records.

i had a frank discussion with the service department, the service rep said there was nothing they could do until a mechanic actually saw it happen. after explaining how assinine that was, i video taped it, then brought it back and bypassed the customer service rep and spoke directly to the mechanic.

looks like they have to replace the whole rear mechanism ($400). if someone else happens to catch their truck doing it, be sure to mention it to the dealer early on so that they can fix it under warranty.
