Just picked up a pair of Pigeon Mountain Industries (PMI) Heavyweight Rescue Gloves from Rescue Direct (Technical Rescue Equipment and Gear - rescueDIRECT.com), which are ideal for wire cable. Retail is $31 and he let me have an XL for $19.90. They also have an ideal model (MSRP: $28) for synthetic. Please give Mark a shout and give him some business. These are great gloves, and they were also featured in this month's issue of Overland Journal. Both gloves are traditionally made for repelling but work great for winching.
