Tried to come up with a reason to buy a winch, but just did not think I would ever use one. No really big mountains here in North Texas and do not anticipate going to any at this time. So kept telling myself no. But, this weekend we got a pretty good snow here with lots of ice. Most of the area was out of electricity for several days and I found myself pulling out several pickups from the snow banks and ditches. Ya, I got by with no winch, but now I see where one might come in handy. So.....now looking. Any suggestions would be great. Almost bought one from Harbor Freight when I had a 25% off coupon, but think I would like to get one little better than those. Now looking at COMEUP winches. Also considering a 8274, but have not run across a good used one around here so far.

Reason to get a winch, to move other cars around the property:hillbilly:

Take the GVWRx1.5 or 2 and that'll be the smallest winch. But if you went with an 8274 I wouldn't worry if it's smaller.

Yeah, but there's plenty of mud and other obstacles you could use a winch for. I have used mine 98% of the time to help others, but the one time I needed it to self-recover my 40 was an innocent-looking muddy road in east Texas.

The 8274 is underrated at 8,000 lbs. IMO. Keep an eye on Craigslist and ebay if you want a used one. Bought mine from Craigslist, running, for a few hundred bucks.
