I just bought this truck, and was wondering if anyone was familiar with this style of winch. It looks like an old warn model, but all of the manufacturing labels are worn off. The remote that operates the winch is VERY primitive (looks to be homemade really). It's basically a long plastic tube with a button on top, and the wire looks like an old extension cord. The outlet is above the bib on the pass. side. Anyway, my main problem is the winch will not release. I can get it to tighten with the remote, but to disengae it I tried pulling the lever mounted on the winch, but the line will not release. The selinoid is working when the button is pressed, and the motor seems to be rotating, but the line will not release. Any info??

It is a Belleview winch like was mentioned above. Check this article out - OLD Warn Winches - Land Cruiser Tech from IH8MUD.com - it is from the Tech links. To get the winch to release, you need to push the handle on the side "in" (see picture below). That allows the winch to free spool. Pulling the handle "out" or away from the winch body locks the motor in. They are a good winch.

Good luck!
