So, I recently picked up a winch with some Master Pull Synthetic Rope, I'm starting to build my winch mounting plate, and I have a question about mounting the Alum Fairlead.

I plan to cut the hole in the mount for the fairlead, but I'm a little worried about the rope rubbing on the back side of the fairlead. I don't want to have it rub on raw steel and ruin the rope.

Just wondering how you guys have these things mounted up.

Good question/concern. If you synthetic rope rubs on the stell behind the fairlead then it will abrade and break. First, make sure the opening you cut for the fairlead is larger than the fairlead opening. Second, if your fairlead is lined up with the bottom of your winch drum make sure the winch line comes directly off the bottom of the drum and exits through the fairlead in a straight, level line. If your line comes off the top of the fairlead and turns a 90 degree to then go out the fairlead hole then you'll have issues.

What kind of MasterPull line do you have - the regular, Superline or Superline XD?

Thanks for the info. That's more or less what I was thinking, but wanted to get a general idea of how I should set it up.

I picked up the Superline 3/8" 85'

You are very welcome. Glad that I could help.

The Superline is a nice, and very strong line. Basically you get 3/8" strength in a 5/16" package. It is spendy, but very strong.

I like the Superline, I haven't tried it yet, as I just picked up the steel to make the winch plate, but I'm looking forward to it, synthetic rope should be interesting to use.
