I'm looking at winch's...Is their a rule of thumb for the correct size? twice your vehicle weight? Thoughts on differant brands and cable..

Winch Rope

I just bought 5/16x125 winch rope, blue for $205.00 from rockstomper.com
rated at 13,700lb

I haven't used it, but since I just rebuilt my 5687 Warn/Belleview, I wanted to try it out....looks good, we'll see!

in my opinion, warn is the fastest, and milemarker is the slowest,

my milemarker takes forever. it works well and is strong, could be alot faster though.

From what I've read, it seems the minimum weight rating you should go with is 1.5 times your vehicle weight or GVWR. For an 80, that puts it around 9000 pounds. Not sure what your FJC weighs in at. Probably lighter?

Mo is always better! . . .

yep! i had to winch a cherokee out 1 day and i didn't feel like turning around to do it, so i hooked my cable to a tree(with a treesaver of course) and strapped to the front of him and pulled us both up the hill.

Thanks for all the feed back...:idea:

Jeff, Who knows what the future maybe....SAS sounds good:popcorn:

Hey Matt,

I'd break something before you assume the front end won't take what you dish out;)

plus, any resources you have should (in my humble opinion) go to body armor and tube to protect it.....or a front selectable locker for that matter....

I know that Harbor Freight may not be the way to go, but it did make it to the final 3. They didn't follow the usage tips either. They really beat on the winches.
