Hey everyone :)
I gots an issue with my old ramsey Pro 9000 :)
my winch thinks its a horny housewife...it only works when ya bang it :(.

Its an ancient old thing, had plenty of corrosion etc,but was refurbished by me,partnered with a wire wheel, contact cleaner, red bull and a book of swear words.all solenoid contacts, copper joiners etc inside the control box are spotless now.

I first used it since refurbishing and bolting it to my 40 yesterday..A mate got his dirty datsun stuck on a pebble, and I had to winch him off it...spooled cable out, plugged in controller, pressed button...and nothing..dead as a doornail..not even a click..fiddled with the cables, wiggled controller connection, disconnected controller and jumped the pins with a bit of wire...still nothing. So I swore at it,whacked the top of control box with my hand...and off it went :),it started working.

Soooo,I took plastic cover off control box,and double checked the connections...everything clean and tight, control box mounted to the top of winch firmly, but it will only run if you hold the button in on control, and bang the plastic control box cover till it wakes up and whirrs into life...any ideas what may be causing this?

The holes where the control plug go in...as well as the male pins, may not being making good contact(that's what she said). I'd clean up both ends as much as possible and apply some lube (hopefully I won't have to explain that) or dielectric grease.

Sounds like a solenoid is sticking to me. Some spray lube in the right places might help that.

I have also had issue with the pins on the control box where the controller plugs in too. On my Ramsey those pins are split down the middle and can get smashed closed. When smashed closed they don't make contact anymore. I had to pry a couple pins back open a time or two to get things going again.
