How do you guys store your winch extension cables? Coiled up with straps keeping the coils together? Something really cool I haven't thought of?

Coiled up in a mesh bag, with my recovery straps.

I used to keep mine coiled up inside the dish of the rim of the spare. But the spare was being stored inside the back at that time. I suppose the would work on a bumper mount, too, but you would need to secure it to the rim, and take the spare off to get to it. You might also be able to wrap it around the circumference of the spare tire, especially if you have a spare cover that might fit over the whole thing...

Synthetic extension stored in my 'catch all' box in the back of the vehicle. Gave up on wire rope quite a few years ago.

cheers,
george.

Sorry for the bump.
IMO, the simple way is the cool way. Just the same as you do, coil it up with straps.
For a piece of synthetic winch extension, you can also easily put it in a kit/bag. Before that, you'd better make it clean and dry.

Keep your synthetic rope out of the sun! It is UV Sensitive and will degrade over the years!

Oviously harder to do on the winch itself.. but your extensions will last alot longer than the main rope if you take care of it!

Mine is just coiled up on top of my ARB recovery bag. The top cover just holds it down when I snap the buckles and pull it tight.
