What is everyone using to protect their synthetic line from UV? I have a warn VR 10k and am looking for a rope cover. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I wouldn't sweat it if you have Dyneema line. Most synthetic ropes are UV stabilized but some older models on the market can be UV sensitive - and I've also seen some "budget lines" come into my shop for repair that had very very very little use on them and they were quite worn. I have about two years on my current Amsteel Blue, Dyneema SK75 line by us (Southeast Overland) and it looks still very good to go.

What type of fiber is your rope made out of and what company did you purchase the line from? I've had a few customers that worried about this and in that case I provided another tubular abrasion guard to help cover the line while on the spool.

Ok, thanks. The canvas idea seems like it would protect the line from dirt and stuff as well.

I bought the neoprene cover for my XD9000i from WARN. It also fits my the Harbor Freight Badland 12000 Winch . Ordered one for it and took off the WARN label. My main concern was the Ice Snow Build-up on both winch's during the winter months. A little concern for the mud/dirt the rest of the year. I only have synthetic line on the Badlands and never considered the UV issue. just have the steel cable on the WARN. I don't expect the Neoprene covers to last more than two or three years since they are sitting out in the weather 24/7 but they will definately protect the winch. They look good and fit well.

I have and still use the 34-year-old vinyl cover original to my 8274. Had to patch one small hole with silicone RTV. It hasn't been out in the weather all that time though. Does a good job at keeping bugs off down here; not too worried about UV on my synthetic line.

I just sewed one up out of gray vinyl. Used 1 inch webbing and buckles to attach it around bumper. Doesn't budge and keeps the sun and grime out. I wouldn't go without one. Don't know if it matters, but my line is technora and even with the "UV coating" I was told the sun would break it down.
