Winch cable

my winch cable got rolled up really bad in my winch. It got so bad the only way I can get the cable out is by attaching it to something and backing up. Once the cable is out it is really twisted and bent up. Can it be fixed or is it time for a new cable?

I want a synthetic rope but I am hoping the cable can be straighten out for the time being.

You want to make sure the wire rope isn't kinked or compromised in any way. If it is, it's best to replace it. You do NOT want to pull with a compromised line.

It's bent up in areas pretty badly.

Time for a new rope then mate, you'll find synthetic so much easier to use compared to steel wire, try and buy a good brand like amsteel the Chinese ropes can be hit and miss sometimes they make them out of sk75 fibre and sometimes they make them out of recycled plastic milkbottles

Thanks. I've been wanting to go synthetic but they're so damn expensive.

what price do they sell them over there we pay around $6-$9 USD per metre for 3/8 or 10mm rope, the Chinese stuff will sell around $4 USD per metre

I think a decent one is around $3-400
