Will the tailgate from a 97 4-runner fit an 02 4-runner?

Just lik the title says, will the tailgate from a 97 fit a 2002? I need to replace the gate on my wife's runner after an accident and I may be able to get one from a 97.

Yes. All body panels are interchangeable from 96 - 02. The only differences are in the front bumper, and whether or not the fender panels come off a Limited or other model. The NON-Limited models don't have holes drilled in the fenders and bumpers to run the fender flares.......

The bumpers can still be interchanged, but you have to buy the 99+ bumper brackets, as Toyota went with the "fat lip" design after 99.

my wife's car got rear-ended and the tailgate got bent. founf one on craigslist from a 96 so that should work...

Don't think this will be plug and play. You will have to completely gut both tailgates and swap all the electronics. They are not the same and this is not a fun job.
