Has anyone had experience running IFS wheels on a solid axle 105 series? I understand you can run spacers (size please) to get the correct offset, but does this have any adverse effects on steering geometry or on road handling?

Please explain how it does in the rocks then. I know how wheel width effects rock rash but not wheel backspacing. I do not understand how backspacing effects a wheel's strength either unless you meant added pressure on front end components from wheels further offset than stock.

105 is a 5 bolt... All years.

By using 8" IFS wheels, you'll have lost nearly 5" of track width... and I am guessing there would be clearance issues on the inside while turning.

I fail to see how less backspacing effects strength or rock rash.

Design differences aside a lever is always influenced by the fulcrum.

Don't think 100-Series OEM backspacing makes a difference with rock rash? Please take a look at any OEM 100 wheels that have been on-trail...more than gravel road on-trail...compared to say OEM 80 wheels: No compare. With less backspacing the wheel "spokes" are more inboard relative to the tire sidewall...thus more, relatively, protected when rolling through 'the rocks'.

I'm not sure about all the levers and fulcrums..... but my OEM 18's are beat and gouged and scratched. Every time I go out, I have another huge rash mark on them.

I thought about painting them, but what's the point? I'd be spending all day retouching them anyway.

That is a far stretch considering the overwhelming majority of rock rash on a wheel is on the lip, not the inner spokes. But maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years :meh:

Like I said...streeters/mall crowd need not apply.

A wire wheel and some elbow grease.....then prime, then paint, then wheel and scratch, then touch up, then wire wheel, then.....
