A fellow here in El Salvador is just finishing up the restoration of a 1958 FJ25 for me, but it has no top whatsoever. I have a chance to buy all the top bows and doors from an FJ40 softtop in the U.S. and have them shipped here, but I was just wondering whether any of you FJ25 gurus could tell an aspiring FJ25 neophyte whether, with some cutting and welding, FJ40 softop bows and doors could be adapted to work on an FJ25? Are the FJ25 fabric tops themselves still available custom-made anywhere, or do any of you have FJ25 softtop hardware you'd be willing to sell? Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this matter.

It depends if the 25 was a hard top model it would work. LandCruiserSteve has a hard top model with a aftermarket FJ40 soft top and it fits find. The early FJ40 soft tops shared the same design as the FJ25 soft top. Making a later OEM soft top fit on an FJ25 soft top will be a lot of work The front bow that is behind the door is totally different the the later style. Plus the doors are smaller both top to bottom and front ot back. The sliding window is at the front of the door not the back like the later models. As of right now this is no place selling the canvas for the FJ25s. If you have a soft top model it would be a better bet to get an after market soft top and doors from a later FJ40. These would be alot easier to adapt to the 25 than the OEM FJ40 top and doors. Cruiser_Nerd just did this and there is a tread about it. Here is a link to a tread about getting the 25 soft top made. This was started over a year ago and it hasn't gotten there yet. Plus this was not including doors. My guess is there is fewer than twenty set of the early soft top doors in the US and that is including the early FJ40s. If this project ever gets going I thought about trying to convert some of the later doors but until then there really no market for one without the other. Hope this help.

Oh and post some pictures of that 58

Yep, John pretty much nailed it.

Original hardtop FJ25 takes an original or aftermarket top for a 40 by cutting of the door posts on the tub.

Aftermarket FJ40 top fits on a soft top fairly easy, mainly the doors just have to be modified. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=108875

Original FJ40 Top would be much harder, location of center bow, door surrounds and doors are completely different.

And lets see some pictures of the 25!
