will a 89 tranny fit in a 85 ????

Ok got all parts and pieces in to put new bearings in my 85 4runner and its turning out to be a huge pain in my ass !!!!! To top it off a snap ring got away from me and can't find it GRRRRRRR . So for now may have to put a temp fix ...... that brings me to my question, I found a W56 tranny / Tcase on Craigslist for a 89 4 x 4 truck ..... can I use it ???? I understand its a forward shift but as long as I get bell housing to tcase will it go right back in or is there driveshaft length issues or other things I should be concerned with????
