visor

I have experimented with going through the mirror on my lx.
My wife was driving and I was just fiddling and have not
followed through. It seems that a tensioner or something
somehow gets twisted, say 90 degrees causing it to spring
in the wrong diretion. Anyone ever seen the guts of this thing?
I saw the '93 post w/the weld job. '97 any diff?

short leg visor repair

I have short legs so when the visor drooped it was hitting my brow.
(because the seat is so far forward)
I didnt want to poke my eyes out when my wife slammed the brakes
to accomodate these idiot LA drivers (I need to move further away
closer to rocks).

Anyway I had to experiment. So I peeled the vinal out from under the
mirrow seciton. (96lx450). In digging around I ripped about a 1-2 inch
line to the corner of the visor as it goes towards the top right on the
passenger side. I have not bothered to fix it as it is not a cosmetic
nightmare. Next I peeled off some of the foam and found
the little rod assembly reponsible for the brow marks. I'm not sure
but I think a little spring weld brakes which is what created tension
or friction when you flip up the visor. So after doing a few stupid things
and looking at this thing long enough I noticed two little holes on a
rectangle looking clamping type spring loaded thingy. It's where the rod
runs through. So I just took a little maching screw and a little nut and
piched it more around the rod as I tighted it. It does not have the same
flip up spring loaded feeling but it stays up and is functional. Also I only
did it with one of the two holes. send a reply if you have any questions.
Next order of bizness, turn those stupid cats and reroute the exh over the
frame so I can weld up a set of rockers.

Has anyone seen any after market visors with pull out visor shields similar to the newer cars. My visors are sagging as well. Seems to be one of the inherent bugs.

I installed stainless steel clips (bent-open Genie Garage door opener clips - 6" long) under the dome light assembly - between the upper and lower plastic halves, using the screw as the pivot point. These clips swing in and out to either retain or free the floppy visor. It doesn't look bad and most new passengers can figure out how to operate the visor clip. Velcro didn't work for me -the visor was too heavy.

I rate this visor design disaster as another cutesy idea replacing good solid engineering seen in other Toyotas in the past. Much like plastic drip rail trim that cracks and falls apart and self-loosening 3rd seat straps that allow your rear most seats to bang annoyingly against the windows.
