hey guys, thought i'd come to you guys for some help. I'd usually post this on the international forum as the problem I'm having is with my HJ61, but the problem is a mechanical one that is perhaps shared with all you 60 series owners.
Today, while driving in 4wd (Hi), I noticed a funny "grinding/nashing" noise coming from the drive train in the front. The noise isn't always there. It only seems to occur when I push the gas pedal and accelerate at around 70-80km/h. It also happens when driving at that same speed and I let me foot off the gas pedal. It'll make that grinding noice for a couple seconds then as well. The interesting thing is that it doesn't happen when under HARD acceleration. hmmm.....
You guys have any ideas as to what the problem might be?
thanks. Beau

I'm having the same issue with mine in 4WD high range. Grinding for a second or two when decelerating from about 30MPH. Sounds like one of my hubs might be struggling to engage and not quite making it (could be too packed with grease). I still have to troubleshoot it a bit more, but if I have any luck, I'll post an update.

thanks spook50. I don't think for me that it's the hubs. Because i can drive around with the hubs engaged while in 2wd and not have a problem. but the minute she goes into 4wd, the noise is there. could it possibly be the gears in the diff or something? I would be really surprised if that was it.

It's possible. I'll be looking into that when I can get my truck into the base shop so I can troubleshoot my lighting problem as well. I haven't rebuilt my steering knuckles yet (since the truck was built, actually), so I'm thinking one of the culprits may be a bearing that's wearing out, and only manifesting itself when there's torque being put to the axle shaft.

that's an iteresting thought. I'll have to take a look at that as well. thanks again.

May be xfer front output shaft bearing . . .

With rig in 2WD & front hubs unlocked, manually rotate d-shaft & listen....

if it is that bearing, is there an adverse effects from not changing it soon?

My front xfer output brg has been noisey for a year or so...

I do 'moderate' off road....I'm sure I should replace
( I have xfer rebuild kit - need 'down time' on my DD to do-it-to-it)
