2011 LC 58K Miles $39K Carl Hogan Toyota

It's been on the market since May! Does it have the stink of death in it? Seems like a very reasonable asking price for miles/year. One owner, no accidents.

I'm not particularly interested (Grey/Grey color combo isn't really my thing), more just curious. When you watch the market week after week and see trucks come and go those that don't stand out.

$39.9 at 50k for a 2011 seems very much in line with market. No uncommon to see similar advertised in the mid $40s. Is there some advantage in the 2013+ that I’m missing?

Yes many upgrades with a 13+ as described ad nauseum on the forum. You asked why it’s been for sale for 6 months - the most logical reason beyond something is wrong with it is that $40k is usually the barrier to get a 13+ truck. Advertised prices are not selling prices FWIW.

Two other possible reasons, its current location, as it's not in a major metro area. It's not enough of a deal that people will travel for or buy sight unseen.

Additionally, I know of enthusiasts who specifically avoid buying cars that have resided in FL for a variety of reasons. Since this is a later model vehicle known for reliability and appears to have a service history, this wouldn't particularly concern me, but I know others who would keep shopping.

It had what appears to be significant damage, there is a Progressive claim # referenced. After the work done below, service history includes paint/bodywork requiring follow up (repaint/finish) work at dealer... I think here is your answer:

CUSTOMER PAY

Interesting, where did you find that? Carfax shows no accidents.

Hey, hey, a car from Florida with a story! Was this claim actually a customer pay, which might have led to the repo as suddenly no cash for car payments as that repair bill sounds rather hefty once all said and done. Who knows. I guess I take back my previous tread-lightly with avoid at all costs.

And x2 on the above question, this VIN with some GoogleFu doesn't pull up any of the insurance info AFAIK. Guessing you have access to some sort of insurance claim database?! I realize Carfax misses many, many events but it somewhat surprises me this accident was missed if an actual claim was filed. Granted it could always end up showing well after the fact due to delays between the info exchange from insurance to Carfax.

I guess then that also begs the question of what throws an accident into Carfax? Is it just the public DMV record of an accident report? Or is it reporting of the insurance agency?

And in this situation, if you bought the car and had the CarFax buyback would they honor it (assuming there was no public record)? Or is their warranty just that they're reporting the best available information?

With the low miles and high hull value it probably just barely cleared total and was repaired.

Likley a chain-smoker's previous ride. I flew to Chicago for a '97 80 series that had lockers and 150k miles ... and was in BLACK. It was a unicorn. Seller swore up and down that it didn't smell like smoke when I was negotiating the deal over the phone. When I landed and seller picked me up, I opened the door and smelled 18 years of chain smoking w/ the windows rolled up inside. I said, no deal. You mis represented the car smoke odor. Keep my deposit. Good luck. Got on the next flight out of chicago. Some dealers do not understand that many buyers HATE the smell of cigarette / cigar / weed smoke.

For fun I had a dealer friend run an autocheck report on the VIN; it came back completely clean. The repo wasn't even on the report.

Ran VIN through Toyota service history database. This work was done via dealer, although perhaps it was subcontracted out. Either way, it seems as though the work was subpar and had to be taken back for correction. I wouldn't touch this truck with a 10ft pole, and apparently nobody else will either.

That is unsettling about the Carfax being clear - there is a Progressive claim # referenced in the records. Buyer beware, as always.

Would the "customer pay" have anything to do with it? Maybe the owner paid a ton out of pocket to avoid an insurance report of damage that would devalue the vehicle with a Carfax check? Just an idea, no idea if that would fly or not.

At least in Oregon, the DMV accident report is required for any damages > $1500 regardless of who pays. Not saying this always happens...

Dealer response to my email inquiry: 'No damage or repairs, just don’t have a big market for these cruisers in this area.. it’s a non smoker, and I really nice cruiser"

Remarkable and concerning.

Wow, Mud saves the day. I'm in the market for a well-cared for 2011-2013. I've been a day late or dollar short on a handful over the last month so I chased this one today. Glad I checked here one last time before putting some money down and catching a flight.

I still don't see the Progressive Claim # in the CarFax...

The CarFax is clear, the damage/claim number (PROGRESSIVE CLAIM# 15-2541185-01) is on Toyota's online service history. CarFax (and, apparently the dealer) say this truck is accident-free, which is nuts and not sure how it slipped through the cracks.

I just emailed the dealer and put them on notice of all this, referencing South Dade Toyota repair order #0103750.

Upon notice of all of the above, dealer's response was: "All we have is a car-fax report to go off of, just like you.. Sorry man."

So, there you have it. I advised he now has actual knowledge, and the dealership has constructive knowledge - and this should be disclosed.

Checked the ad today, no mention of repair. I also sent an email asking why they aren’t disclosing the previous damage and that I am forwarding the info to Toyota/Lexus.

Stuff like this makes my blood boil!
