Why don't my 03+ tail lights fit on my 98 hundy?

Tech related:
The signal light socket, brake light socket and reverse light socket on the 03+ housing is slightly different compared to the 98-02 housing. I will post pictures later, the bulbs are all the same but the sockets have different shapes.
I called toyota and they reported that there are two different part numbers for the light harness on the right side between the 98-02 and the 03+ model
But if you had the whole light assembly with sockets and wire harness, would it just plug into the vehicle side connector and mount to the body no problem?

yes it would, I just opened up my dads 100 series tail lights which are now the 06+ version. The end of the harness that plugs into the vehicle is exactly the same, but the end of the harness which has the light bulb sockets are slightly different. Not noticeable unless closely examined
Lastly, the bulb sockets on the 98 model are thinner than what is on the 03+. The sockets of the reverse and brake lights fit but, they wiggle when they are installed

Also, it could be a slight variation? Kinda like the way some of the 16" wheels are constructed so the upgrade might be pnp for others here, cant confirm anything just yet

The differences. Not enough to notice at first glance, but a closer look reveals a significant difference.
Same bulbs, different shaped sockets. Make sure to get the 03+ harness for the tail lights. Maybe CDan or Beno can chime in here and confirm the two different part numbers that I was informed off at toyota earlier today. Surely someone here made an error or could just be a slight change in the production process. I would dremel the housing to make the harness fit but the thickness of the sockets is also an issue
