Last year of import of the FJ45LP-B was 67. 68 Started the padded dash in the US. I believe Canadian 45s got a padded dash at some point. The cruisers in Oz didn't have padded dash until late in the production. Then I've seen them with the padded dash but no lower pads. The same with the rollbar that started with the 74 model. I believe some markets never had a rollbar and still had the longer jump seats.
Pretty sure a rollbar was always an option on all all markets.
When I bought my 43 * new in 1980 the rollbar was optional..

* dash pads included.

Frankly, I don't quite see any useful function for one, either the top or the bottom pad. The no-nonsense, utilitarian nature of these earlier beasts are so appealing!

My 1973 european ( danish) 45 LPB doesn`t have the dash pads....... From 68 forward it was illegal to sell a vehicle without a padded dash. Just like seat belts and then three point belt. In australia they were required by 64 to have seperate amber rear turn signals. In 65 Australia's FJ40 had a rear crossmember that had the tail lights built in. To sell a vehicle in a country you have to met their safety requirements. What you, I or Toyota think doesn't matter. We don't make the rules.![]()
The padded dash was mandated for safety reasons. Wasn't Toyota's idea. From 68 forward it was illegal to sell a vehicle without a padded dash. :

Different markets, different laws .

Curious what a FJ45LP-B would of had since it also had a removeable top.
But because Toyota never imported any to the US after the 67 model we will never know.

If so, why weren't the 45s padded...?? I have seen many 45s either in person or pics and I think I have only seen one or two with pads and I think they were very late years....

Or the 45 dash is so pretty it's worth sacrificing a few teeth to have to keep from covering it up. You gotta have your priorities right.

X2 Gumby is correct and besides where would I put all my magnets![]()
