Why 2000 is a trouble year for tranny?

I believe what has been brought up on the board was a bad batch of one component that only affected the tranny for a short time period.

did we ever establish a manufactured date range for the affected transmissions? IIRC it was something like late 2000 models.
nope, not enough data on the mfg date of the failures to claim any date range. In fact, there's failures that start in '99 and spill into '01. Not that I would wish this on anyone, but we need more failure data to establish a mfg date range. Toyota knows, but they ain't telling. ;) Or, it's quite conceivable depending on the exact failure mechanism that the bad trannies are scattered throughout the range up until a part # change.

Mine is a 2001 and the tranny dropped at 112k. An interesting fact about the replacement planet set I bought. The manufacturer usually offers a 100k warranty on planet sets, but does not for the Land Cruiser in these year range. Maybe bad planning on Toyota's part for this model. I think the Tundra has the same issue for these years.
