who's boat towing with their FJ element? (1 Viewer)

Gotta find something a little more road friendly than the 45 for towing the bass boat I'm looking at. Do these things tow as bad as they look or do they not totally suck?

I remember a post by Degnol where he was towing an FJ40 with an FJC. Is the boat as heavy as an FJ40? Ideally you'd want a 3/4 ton truck, but for occasional towing short distances, I'll bet an FJC would do OK. What's the GVWR of an FJC?

Bass boat should be fine. I tow a pop-up camper. Fully loaded the trailer probably weighs around 3400lbs. I've got 33" tires so the factory ratio is a little off. No trailer on the highway I get 18MPG. Towing I get 11MPG. It's a little whimpy on power. I'm WOT on some of the interstate hills. I've got a steep driveway so I use 4LO to manuver in and out. Keeps from cooking the tranny.

I tow my 21ft party barge to the lake, No problems or issues. Just not going 65 uphill.

My boat is light and tows just fine. Visibility out back is poor. As with any
vehicle you get used to it though.

I prefer to use the 80 to tow just so I can see what I'm doing.

Boat is 15 ft Sea Nymph. Electric motors front and back.

I towed a 12x6 trailer...about 3500 pounds loaded for a week behind my FJ.....towed great...never an issue. The only problem I had whatsoever was gas mileage took a dump when towing that weight in stop and go traffic just as it would with any other vehicle...

But it handled great...great road manners...no issues at all.

junk, i ha a traccker that is 18.5 feet weighs about 2300 pounds empty. i make about 3 200 mile trips to my favorite lake a year only real issue i have is the hills the at love to down shift it even will go as far as 2nd gear on some of the hills but this is with the cruise set on 72 mph. probably should look into a trans cooler if you have a AT.

The Trail Team trailers have been packed to 3500# and with 95k on my FJC, it's yet to be an issue with the stock trans cooling....I suggest not using cruise control tho, your mileage will jump appreciably if you keep it outta 3rd on the hills....it likes to downshift early with the cruise on

Clint from the Hoosiers tow's his FJ40 on a 18' hauler behind his FJC....never HUGE miles, but for short runs it works dandy.

I somehow get better mpg with the FJ as well. By better I mean control. There is an obviouse difference in the hp and slug. I have a mt so I'm constantly in lower gears on hills.

I bet you don't even feel that boat behind you!

How could the FJ Cruiser be better at towing than the Titan? That seems very odd.

Whatcha got? I'm pretty set that I'm looking for a tracker avalanche with something like 135 or 150.

i have a 2005 tracker all fish. big and wide real stable and good in big water. only has a 90 hp. but it will do almost 50mph.

Assuming you are talking about a Wrangler, I believe they are only rated at 1500 pounds towing. BTW, the new Corvette actually does have muffler bearings.
