I'm looking for M12X1.25 fine thread castle nuts to mount my shocks on the 40. Everybody sells the nut with the "round" castle part on top, it seems. I WANT the OE style that integrates the castle into the nut itself....not the round castle on top of a regular nut!

Who sells them? Fastenal does not it seems......and these guys have no prices!

castle nuts properly are referred as Castellated Nuts. For install with a cotter pin. Do the shocks use a cotter pin for install? I have never seen that before. Otherwise a castellated nut is useless as it has not mechanical locking in it. Nylon inserted nut have a locking mechanism, as do metal(out of round at the top) locking nuts. To make a castellated nut stay on with out a cotter pin you have to use a lock washer.

Search castellated nut and metric in google. You might find one. Otherwise try going to Toyota and have them look up the nut in the EPC for your spot you need. They might still be able to get it.

Yes castellated nuts for use with a cotter pin. The 40 shock mounts use them. Everything I come across seems to be this new style. Pardon my anal-retentiveness.

mcmaster carr (McMaster-Carr) has them. Search for nuts, then reduce the selection by first choosing thread size and pitch. The ones they have are German, not Japanese, if that matters. $6.50 for five, plus tax and shipping...It's probably cheaper to first check with your local Toyota dealer to see if they have them.

I was on mcmaster's website and their metrics only went to M10!
You sure they have them? Maybe I should call them.

Sorry. You're right. I was looking at the M12x1.75. McMaster Carr doesn't have one for M12x1.25.

So the parts diagram for the FJ40 (through 1977) shows a nut with a cotter pin on both rear shock bolts. The part number for the nut is: 94146-41200. "Toyota Parts" - OnlineToyota Parts and Accessories. shows it as being available for less than $2 each. See if your local dealer can order this part.

I went ahead and ordered them from Tekbolt.com, after looking for them about half an hour using Google Search. I'd rather NOT spend an afternoon driving all over town looking for them. They seem reasonable and a lot of metric stuff too.
