X'S 2 on the Thule. The other great thing is that they have a whole system with almost any attachment that you can imagine. Once you buy the feet and the rails there are tons of options. I have had one of my one of my systems (feet, rails and ski attachments) for going on 23 years and seven different vehicles. Still works great! Now they have the low profile stuff from what I understand. :grinpimp:

Thule has different height mounts, I used the standard height and they barely cleared my factory rack.

The lowest profile mounts, bulldog clamps, were from Conferr which no longer exists. Garvin Industries acquired some of their stuff I think and theif website is Garvin Industries

Here is a pic of the bulldog clamp.

i used THULE for my rack

I tried the Thule. But when i made them tight enough that they didn't slide on the gutters the bars bent.

If you looked at the truck from the front you could see an arch to the bars.

They went back.

Hmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,I recently bought a '97 80 and moved the 4 #300 Thule gutter feet and 2 load bars that were on my 60 onto the 80 and then mounted the roof top tent.

Just a hand tightening on the feet was good enough for them not to slip because of that thick rubber the clamps edges were covered with. I did not notice any bowed load bars when ratcheting down on the RTTs u-bolts, not that they weren't bowed, I just didn't notice any distance between the bottom of the RTT and the tops of the load bars. Now I'm curious.

Contact "the MULE" He has some of the best gutter mounts I have ever used. Fully hight adjustable and ROCK solid. They even come with a built in security feature so your rack can't be unbolted by some average Joe. And they look better than anything I have seen before.

here is a pic of the mounts, with them in their lowest position your crossbar will be about 1/2- 3/4" above the ribs on the roof.

Thanks everybody that thru in 2 cents. Those Bulldog clamps might be the hieght I'm looking for. It looked like the most forward and rearward clamps were set at a different height...are they adjustable? Also looks like it barely cleared the rubber roof strips.
