55 acres, gates roughly at both ends. Need to monitor traffic going in and out of these gates 24/7.
Rather have motion activated cameras vs hours and hours of video to review. Also would be nice to have one recorder but due to the distance involved, this may not be possible.
What say you mud?

what you are saying, is possible with a lot of digging, i would look for the wildlife cameras and see if there are any that actually record, and maybe multiple cameras on each end to get a possible pic of a face and a tag # if the are driving.

Stealth Cam "unit" model are pretty sweet. Color day and BW infered at night. Also do video! Very flexible and small. Would be two seperate cams but easier than a dedicated security system. They are pricey and require computers. Trail cams are stand alone and really easy to operate and inexpensive. The Unit has no visable flash so no one would see. Cabelas has them on sale $150 or so. A dedicated security system would be in the thousands including a computer with lots of memory. And I have no idea what it would cost to run that much wire:) The only con is the trail cams tell you what happened not whats happining right now! CCTV on the intranet is a great source and if I was buying again I would get the same GeoVision brand that I am currently using. 12 cam system with audio. Its worked great in a DQ location for the past 5 years.
Good luck!

Get yourself some Pelco units, maybe PTZ's...you may even be able to talk to an alarm company that has some good used equipment...get yourself a harddrrive that'll give at least 10 day backup...again, you don't need state of the art...plenty of reasonable priced software available

one option is to use std CCTV /security cameras and leave the "smarts" to video analytics software... at a crude level this is generally the stuff that can detect when something in a camera field of view changes then record some period of video and/or issue some kind of notification. The more sophisticated stuff can discern people vs autos, recognize objects that have been removed or introduced or loiter, objects that cross defined boundaries or that travel in other-than-approved directions, etc. Can be tuned or "taught" to ignore grass waving in the wind or waves lapping in water. Amazing stuff...

Probably impractical for most personal use, but getting less expensive all the time.

We use an ADT-sourced and ADT-maintained system, with VPN real time monitoring capability. It's spendy, but it keeps people honest and tracks both cars and tools pretty well.

What is your budget? Is there power at the gates? How good security do you want? How far are the gates from the building? Line of sight?

Local company just sent me a bid. Inclues 2 dvrs (due to distance/line of sight, and power availability we need 2), monitors, cameras, installed for $2,500. Not bad IMO...
All I have to do is provide a 120v recpt. at one end (currently 480v 3 phase).

Have you looked at the stuff available from tigerdirect.com? If you have the tech ability, then that should cut your costs in half. But if it has to work, a local company that will quickly service the shop will work.

Depending on the security, you may want a wired solution. My bluetooth backup cam has picked up the feed from many a "security" cam view. Kinda defeats the purpose

A few of us have the ability to "Live" view online on our system.

Once we get a economical internet provider out there, that will be an option also.

A friend of mine is about to open a liquor & beer superstore. They put in a 13 camera DVR system. DVR is an awesome setup.
