ok, here are some driveway shots. Finally got all 4 on tonight. I'll check for hits later. Probably get some road miles on this weekend, had the rears on for the week (front driveshaft out of course) not bad so far.

Wow! Your neighbors must love you... stained driveway, tools and tires stacked in front of the garage, dead grass, christmas lights still up. :flipoff2:

sorry if i missed it but what wheels did you find to run those 37's? I can find the tires everywhere but no damn wheels to put them on unless i want to re-center.

BTW, looks so good you're making me re-think 315's or 37s ;)

And a monster 80 with a skull on the bumper coming at you. Truck looks great,

The Christmas light thing would be a problem if they were still up from the year before , since he took the pixs on 12/18 ,
If anything by the looks of it hes the only one in "Da ,Hood" who had any Christmas spirit

Oh and yeah, nice tires :D

How do you like the tires? How long have you had them on? What type of wheeling do you do with them?

Chris

I've had them on since just before Christmas. Maybe 1,000 miles? So far I've done no wheeling with them. Done lots of snow and ice and I've been been happy that way so far. And the dry pavement ride and noise is actually quite good. We'll see what they're like in the mud and rocks in the next month or so if I can get out.

Not to get off topic - but what type of spray liner did you put on the sides and was this the original color or has it faded? Asking as I'm thinking of doing this on my LX

Durabak. I rolled it. I've done brush, roll and spray, and for panels like that, the roll on is the easiest, cleanest, most consistant. The color has stayed pretty much the same - it's been 2 years maybe since I put it on? I love the stuff. Did a whole 40 in it before in blue, which is when I learned spray is messy.

Like Koffer said, check the date dumbarse. Dead grass? Humm, ever see what bermuda looks like in December in Tulsa? It's called hibernation dumbarse, not dead, as soon as spring comes I have one of the nicest lawns in the neighborhood and pay a service to keep it that way. Tires and tools stacked in front of the garage, ya', cause it's not like I just put on tires or anything - did I mention you're a dumbarse? And of course the driveway couldn't just need to be swept after working on the truck?

And, yes, my neighbors do love me, cause I'm the one that fixes their s*** when it breaks, fork seals on bikes, brakes, leaking jeep valve covers, broken bikes, ect. Oh, I'm also the one who yanks their father-in-laws out of the ditch on Christmas night, and give rides to work at the hospital when we're in the middle of a blizzard. So, let's see, you don't know s*** about anything you commented on, and you didn't even comment on the topic. FOAD mean anything to ya?

Did you have to cut/modify the rear of front fenders where these start to rub?
Any front axle repositioning done?

no real rubbing issues. DS front a little, but that's cause my fender is dented!

Damn buuuudddddd. It was a joke. Guess you didn't get it:idea:

Can you post a update on this setup. Im thinking of going the same route because I want 37's and this is about all I can afford right now. How bad/good do they ride, noise, snow, mud performance ect... I have been reading a ton online about these Hummer 37 MT radial that you can buy from these surplus guys. Most I have read has been positive, but some are selling tires with good tread, but are dry rotted. Do you care to share your source where you got yours?

Thanks

Walking Eagle Have you regeared for the 37s if so what size? if not how does it drive on stock gears?

Thanks, Anton

He's still running stock gears. 5.29s are on his list of summer mods.

I looked at going this way too. It was 1239.00 including shipping to Idaho for 5 Hummer beadlocks with pressed centers (Like the Soft 8s) welded at 3.5" backspacing, PVC inserts and 5 95%+ tires. The wheels were coming sandblasted but not powdercoated or painted. And the rock rings were not welded on at that price. If you go over to Pirate and check the vendor section there are quite a few people offering them up for sale.

I ended up going 17" and picked up a set of used 37x13.50x17 Toyo MTs which are my favorite tire of all time. I'm in them $1075 with 5 new 17x9 Soft 8 wheels and a Pro Comp spare. Well and then like $134 in mount/dismount and balancing. There are two disadvantages of what I did versus going with the Hummer stuff. One I didn't get beadlocks and secondly if I wreck a 37" 17" rim tire I'm screwed on replacement cost. I'm going to be forking out about $400 a tire. However, I wheeled the heck out of my 315 Toyos and never wrecked one and the planned 5k or so a year I'm driving the Cruiser I put them on I should have 4-5 years left on them. So I'm starting a tire fund the day I start driving it, a couple of bucks a week and I should be able to save up enough for new ones.

Thats cool didn't realize 37s were so pricey. :o

Do those rims by chance have the rare safety bead? I'm thinking of going this way.

Nope, no safety bead - Some old chevy rims had them - on pirate a guy added them to rims like these, and there is another thread about screwing them. I was just in a hurry to get up on 4 matched tires, and got it done just before the snow flew here. I've looked at the internal bead locks. And Hummer rims, and will likely do something some day, when some money comes my way - until then, I'll just run 25psi.

That's why the hummer tires are so atractive. I sold my stock rims for $200. I bought the new ones for $250, The tires I got 5 for $200 plus $100 shipping from Dwigtsbikersdream in Texas. So, mount and balance - well, 1/2 balance, the rear still aren't balanced, and I'm into them for $400-$450? If one goes bad, gets a hole in the side, $75 plus the ride from trailworthyfab.com, and I’m good.

What's odd, is the decision was largely money based. I didn't want to spend $1500 on a new set of tires. Nor did I really have the money. I was hoping my MTZ's would last till spring, and they would have if I hadn't punched a hole in them. I got back up and running and driving for under 5 bills, with good tread, and could drive this way for the next couple years.

Gears are definitely on the to do list, and I was getting real serious about choosing gears and who to set them up, and then I took the first look at my taxes, and realized that I was paying in a couple grand rather than getting back a couple grand. I loose a car payment this summer though, that'll be nice....

This weekend at least I got one thing done - new knuckle bearings, and repacked birfs from a 17K wrecked truck, and new brake pads. Now, just need new tie rod ends, and I can start saving for gears - again.

As far as how they run? Don’t have much to say since my last update couple days ago – still haven’t gotten them in the rocks and mud yet, just snow and ice and pavement. They actually ride really nice, even above hwy speed. They’re plenty quiet too. I promise I'll post up when I have some real off-road experience on them.
