I just finished rebuilding and installing a clutch master and slavgecylinder. When I finished the clutch would not engage. I adjusted the freeplay and got it to shift but now it whines when the clutch is depressed. It did not do this before I rebuilt these parts. I found that the push rod on the slave was almost fully extended so I adjusted that which made it better but it still whines just a bit. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Has anyone even rebuilt these units before? Oh yeah I already searched but I couldn't find my exact criteria. If anyone at least knows what to search for that would be helpful. Thanks

the throwout bearing will whine when the clutch is depressed if the bearing is going bad

Hate to say it but you may have put the disc in backwards. When you do that the clutch disc interferes with the flywheel bolts.
I hope I'm wrong. you might need to rent a boroscope to confirm the disc installation.

He did not install a new clutch, only master and slave cylinders.

OK I was reading over some old threads and found one that describes a weak spring inside of the slave cylinder in later model trucks. Is this spring absent in my 1983? When I rebuilt the slave there was not a spring inside of it but there was one in the rebuild kit and the fsm so I installed it anyway. Could this be the problem?

It looks like the spring inside the slave cylinder doesn't show up until 4/85 build date. As stated above, the whining you hear when the clutch is disengaged (clutch pedal depressed) is most likely the throw out bearing.

I didn't have this problem before I rebuilt the SC and MC. Is it possible that a worn SC or MC could mask a bad TO?

Just an update and a new question. I removed the spring from the interior of the SC and adjusted the pedal and freeplay as per FSM instructions. I replaced both springs, one at the pedal, and the one at the slave with a significantly stronger spring. I also adjusted the push rod until it is as short as it will get. I am still hearing a slight whine when the clutch is depressed but nothing as bad as before. after that was all done I noticed the the "clutch fork"? is able to move a significant amount in all directions (up, down, in, out ,and obviously front to back as tough it is unattached and floating freely. Is this normal?
Oh and thanks for the help so far theres not a mechanic in this town that will even look at this thing.

OK after hours of searching I found that the clutch fork is not supposed to move as much as it does now. Upon closer inspection with the bottom clutch plate remove I discovered that the Clutch fork has become disengaged from the hub and the pins that are supposed to hold it in place are nowhere to be found. So my question is, Where can I find replacement clips? Do I have to order a new fork and hub just to get these or is this something I may be able to find in a hardware store or something? Oh and if anyone has pics or knows what these things actually look like that would be helpful, all I have left is just a shredded sliver of metal that gives no clue to the original shape of these clips.

Dang You were to fast for me. I just found them on spector for a buck apiece. I think I will still look around town though. Maybe I am just a redneck but after three days under the truck Bailing wire is beginning to look pretty good.
