Whining/Radio interference problem with fan

Here are the symptoms: When the fan/AC is on I get an intermittent whining noise out of the speakers. It does not change with rpm, and when I switch to a different fa speed it goes away (for a while). The nose is not very loud, but annoying.
Anyone encountered this and know a fix?

I'm no expert, but it sounds like a shorted ground or other such wire behind your stereo.
