I have built a fully articulated jeep wrangler rock crawler (SAS), a FJ Cruiser rock crawlers (IFS) Full size Dodge 2500 Diesel trucks (SAS) and now thinking about purchasing a 1997 Lexus 450 with full mods for wheeling. (SAS) It seems the heavy diesel engine trucks are not the best for crawling, and the FJ Cruiser has a weak front end with the Independent Front Suspension. I am a big guy and getting into a 91' Jeep Wrangler is tough duty. What opinions do you all have?

You tried rock crawling in a 3/4 ton diesel truck? Lol.

Full size Chevy or GMC. Very popular so there are thousands of options to choose from.

Yeah, good luck getting one of those through a tight trail.
GM gear has tons of options available, because their factory equipment falls off.

Easier for a 90s chevy 1500 and do a solid axle swap and a 6in lift with 35s itll go anywhere

It's not about what you drive, it's how you drive it.

This is the first time I've heard the FJ has a weak front end. I still think your FJ is the most capable...

Full size trucks are for towing and showing off at the mall with 35 inch tires...not rock crawling.

I've had this set up on an older Z71, and it sure powered through anythign I stuck it in. Sure lasted too, 280k miles on when I sold it (original motor, 2nd transmission, minimal maintenance done on it and driven daily). But, round here we don't have the rock crawlin option...

If you're lookin at an 80 series, thought about a 100 fully modded? More comfortable, and has that nice V8 in it for power. But, IFS is a problem... Or as a fun truck...a Samurai! Funny lookin little things, but I've seen em crawl over and crawl through about anything.

I like trail riding and mud. I avoid rocks like the plague.
I've ridden in a good few trucks, and notice that short wheelbase rigs are more fun, and get stuck less often.
oh, and height and massive tires can be bad.
