Tried to talk my brother into a Land Cruiser but he insists on wanting a truck. So I need some info on what would be the best Toyota truck for him.He is looking at mid to late 1990's under $10k
Will be his DD with occasional offroad use but nothing to extreme.
and he needs an extended cab. Thanks in advance.

"the bigger 4.0 V6"

To my recollection, the 4.0 v6 doesn't come out until 2005... ;)

However, in the debut of the Tacoma in the 1995.5 model year, they came with the 3.4 v6 24 valve. IIRC the TRD package wasn't available until 1998.

IMHO I would try to get at least a Tacoma. The 3.0 isn't called the 3.slow just for fun. I have had both engines, and although the 3.0 was acceptable, the 3.4 has more aftermarket possibilities. Additionally and the major thing...you don't have to worry about the head gasket problems.

I HAD a 1997 T100 xacb 4x4. I sold it to buy my house :(

But, it was a good truck. Only bad things about it...the extra cab doors don't open up like the Tundra. Also, parts are starting to get more difficult to acquire b/c they stopped making the truck in 1998. But the engine is the same as the Tacoma 3.4 v6. A great engine although maybe a little underpowered for the T100. It was fine for me, you just can't be a speed demon. Well, if you're buying a truck you shouldn't be a speed demon anyway. I towed a boat once and it did fine but, it was mostly flat (San Diego to LA and back). You can still get the supercharger also if you desire the extra power.

All in all, the T100 was a good truck.

the 3."sloe"is a pain in the a$$. I have one and I hate it,but I'm thinking of the 4.3vortec :) . go for the 3.4
