My rig is a 91 FJ70 (swb of course) and for my purposes (surprise surprise) I find it a bit harsh for my taste. The leaf packs are in good condition, not flat and recently painted and lubricated, my shackle angles are a real 45 deg. My usage of the truck will not be anything approaching "extreme" and mainly use it for negotiating very muddy Amazon back roads, and sometimes I like to do it rather quickly :steer::bounce:which as is, makes for a rather bumpy ride. I'd like to try strategically deleting a leaf or two, my pack is 7 leafs in front which is where I'll start, any advice on which leafs (leaves?) would be prime candidates to start with? I'd prefer to not have to pay to have someone remove and disassemble my spring packs 5 times to find the best combination, any help greatly appreciated! Btw, my shocks are pimpin monroe yellows (yes I know) but will be into some RS 9000 (or ?) soon.

Bitchin! LOL , was hoping for post just like that, thanks Crushers.

Hey Crushers, nearly done with the front (they had one of my main front springs reversed :-( ) would like to do the rear too, same formula? Sorry didn't count my rear leafs yet.

now, you didn't ask about the result down sides. you asked which leaves to remove for a softer ride, this also results in more body roll on corners as well as a "boat in water" feeling. an osilization from side to side as you go down the road.
you WILL need to modify your driving habits if you are agressive at all. especially on curves and corners on the road.
the rear is #5 and #3 from the top.
the front is usually just #3 but you can try #5 and #3 but if you get too much body roll then you will need to put #5 back in.
it is a 20 min job per side so if you are paying someone then it is still a cheap test.

but

after rereading your first post i am suspecting it isn't removing the springs that is the concern here. it seems that "bottoming out" will be the concern. the only way to travel down a rough road at speed (which i am now thinking is the way you are talking) is a lift kit. you need MORE travel for rough roads, not less.
when i first read the post my mind said "pavement with pot holes" and this time when i read it i picked up on "muddy" and "speed". the advice i gave you is incorrect for your application. the advice i gave you was in response to " which leaves to remove for softer ride". my advice at that point is correct.
but
you do not want to remove leaves when speed is involved, you want to increase clearence for more travel without hitting the bump stops.

sorry, you need to lift the truck.
my bad.
