2000 LC100 with a Redarc 50a DC/DC. Solar in in the not so distant future to act as a "tender".

I need a "house" battery to run a 12v fridge & accessories. I started by looking at Interstate/Oddesey, but after looking to see what Wal-mart has I got sucked into what appear to be great deals on Lipo batteries. I am in the SE US, so rarely below freezing, but I may travel to freezing places.

I know that there are threads that have this info, but since battery tech changes so often, I thought that I would ask this specifically - right now, what are you using as a house battery? Are there any Lipo deals that are worth the $$

I’ve had great luck with Optima and Oddesey. I know many here strongly dislike the Optima and say that their batteries went downhill since they sold/changed manufacturing facilities. I currently have 2 Red Top Optimas both have been in service since 2014 in 2 of my vehicles and an Oddesey in another. When not being used consistently all of batteries have trickle chargers.

I will probably replace the Optimas at some point with an Oddessey when it’s time.

OP, did you mean LiPo literally? Cuz what everybody is talking about for 12V "house" batteries are Lithium Iron Phosphates, not LiPos. I got one of the LFP 100Ah in Mini size for only about $170 recently, I could not believe how small it is. On top of top it actually tested at 102Ah. Amazing!

My understanding is you do not want to run it under your hood. Heat is no bueno for these. I installed one in the rear on DS wheel well between my fridge box and rear quarter and to date have been real happy with it. With that said we are currently experiencing pretty cold weather for more than just a few days. So we will see how it holds up to that. I do top it off every so often with a NOCO shore power charger and it has a redarc dc/dc charger connected for when the truck is running

^^ no, not under the hood, no experience with that, sorry
