im checking out options to go off roading either Tn, Al, or Ga. in the month of Sept. I have 5 days I can take off. here's the ideal list: mountains, forest, hiking, camping, mild to moderate terrain (no sliders, or skid plate on the fj40 yet so...) any suggestions? also I may ship rig and fly in if driving time is more than 12 hrs. current rig upgrades 2.5in lift, 33in tires, long range fuel tank and rear locker & winch. thanks for any guidance/ suggestions.. and all are welcome to join us. 2 rigs in so far no matter what.

I always look for an event if I have specific dates available and I am on my own. First place I look is on the TLCA.org site I would them poke around the North Carolina clubs websites. Here is a list from the FJ Cruiser forum

One of the Texas events and Coal Mine classic are on my list to attend, neither are in September.

thanks Gwagg july and aug there are a few things going on not much in sept so far. i have gotten some great response the guys in GA interested in joining the ride. next summer ill plan around existing off road events. the one in vermont look interesting.

I went to Beasley Knob several years ago and really enjoyed it, camped right off a trail for a couple nights. Not sure if there would be enough for more than 2 days, Southeast Overland has a nice Beasley map here: http://www.southeastoverland.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=11

SETO is being held at Coal Creek/Windrock, which I think is in Tennessee, a bit further. That place looks pretty good.

One thing I don't like about FL is the LOOONG drive to get anywhere.

I would NOT suggest going alone to any sized 'park' you can't walk out of ;)

Windrock is fun, would do the job for you, but you'd spend a lot of time driving - and for SURE don't want to be out there alone...

The problem with Golden Mountain is the facilities, or the lack thereof... unless you plan on getting a room at the local hotel (not that far, maybe a 10-mile drive?)... so if having a hot shower is on your list of needs, consider that when you think about GM. Otherwise it's a great park - but sliders are needed for some of the 'main' trails.

Choccolocco or Golden Mountain. Facilities at both places are basic and summer camp style, but a hot shower can be had either place.

Choccolocco is my favorite. It's a little bit bigger than Golden Mountain with lots of trails. The place is both remote and close to town at the same time. It's less than 10 minutes to the hotel. Not quite as as scenic as being in the Smokey Mountains, but there a few nice mountaintop views. September would be a perfect time.
there's enough lighter duty trails to get you around most areas of the park.
The owner is a very nice and helpful person.

It would be beneficial to have some homies to wheel with and show you around.
Usually by now we have a fall out of state trail ride planned. Last year and this year it's been difficult to get a group of people interested in venturing out of state.
Economy maybe?? Out of state wheeling is ten times better than here.

I second what Gwagg said. Try to attend an event if going alone. It will make it a MUCH better trip.

I talked with Luis tonight , he's up for trip in Sept . So after looking at the calendar how about the weekend of Sept 20-22 . That's far enough out for everyone to make some kinda of plan . If all concur I'll start a new thread .

ill do the weekend before.. or any other date other than sept.20 sched.conflict.

if i had a big brother it would be Bret... always watching out for me, thanks bro im watching the form and flee bay for a set of aisins and extra birf.

Well, Thought I had a good break yesterday when my work gave me the whole week of Sept 15th off as vacation. The dates work perfect.

This morning went to the doctor and was told no twisting, bending or lifting more than 45 lbs for two more months and set my return to work date at Sept 23rd. That means no leaving town or vacation until that date

It appears I'm probably out for this trip. Best case scenario is I get them to move the return to work date back a week, take the vaction and be there at a reduced capacity as in riding or spotting, but NOT wheeling.

I double checked the dates sept 20 weekend is the only date I CAN'T goihave continuing ed seminar. can you all consider the weekend before? Sept 14th ?

.

We can wait until you are cleared for takeoff . You don't want to go against doctors orders . Maybe the next weekend Sept 27 , we can headup then if you're able .

What about that Fattires , you up for that weekend .

or

We can plan a trip in Oct sometime . Maybe some others can go play too .
