Are there any open public lands to go camping?

I know it's cold - who cares - I'm getting a little cabin fever and I just want to get out and sit by a campfire...

Any ideas?

Are you talking about camping with wheeling , or just camping? If just camping then there are places like Starved Rock.

Well - I would get there by Tacoma, but no - I'm not looking for wheeling. Just a place that I can go, pitch my tent, build a fire, and be alone - away from assholes with RV's and Trailers with electricity, and running water, etc.

I'll have to look into Starved Rock. I'm not familiar with that.

I suggest a highway rest stop.:princess:

My limited experince with starvedrock was not that great. Paved paths and lots of people. In this area it is really hard to get away. I have humped it out to Wisco (4 night and 3 night) and Michigan(4 night), but that's a long way for one night. Most of theplaces I really want to get out to are at least 3-4hrs away and most are 7-10. My boards are on friday. I am procrastinating now. I will look around at the places I have been this weekend and let you know.

Good luck finding some peace.

Patrick

Haul your happy ass down here. I'll go freeze my ass off with ya at one of many places around here. There's several places to camp AND wheel right around St. Louis.

Well - one of my buddie's family has a big ass farm in Norhtern Indiana, so I think we might head down there this weekend.

...but I'm definitely going to keep your offer in mind, Josh! I have tons of free time between now and March with the wife out of town.

She's out of town until March?? What's up with that?

She's a designer for Crate & Barrel, and in Minneapolis C&B closing 2 smaller stores and opening a new big store, and they didn't have a designer, so they transferred her out there until March.

They set her up with a nice furnished apartment, and they're giving her per diem, and paying to fly her home 2 weekends per month (or fly me there . . . like I really want to go to Minneapolis...). But in the mean time, I'm bored as fxxx!

Try the "casual encounters" section of Craigslist. :D Surely there's something on there to keep you company. LOL

Let me know when you want to come down. Joli is having surgery this coming Monday so she's going to be out of commission for awhile. Just depends on when you wanna come down.

:DNevermind!!!:D

So this weekend I FINALLY got out and went camping & shooting with one of my good friends from work. His family owns a s*** TON of farm land in North-Central Indiana. Both of our wives are out of town, so on Friday afternoon we packed up and took off...

(Me)

Ze Guns:
  • SigArms Model 556 Rifle
  • Henry "Golden Boy" .22 Lever Action Rifle
  • Old side-by-side 12 ga. double barrel (my family airlume - brand unknown)
  • Sig P226 9mm
  • Sig P220 .45
  • S&W .460 Revolver
  • H&K UPS .45 Compact

That .460 was CRAZY! Every time you pulled the trigger the shock wave would give you that tingly feeling in your head . . . like when you get hit in the nose. Very powerful, but very accurate!

I brought along my old ass side-by-side double barrel. It has double triggers, so we had the "Man Test" of loading both barrels with 00 Buck, and firing them simultaeously. My shoulder's still a little sore...

One last shot just beacuse I really like how this pic came out:

My uncle picked up my new pistol for me today. The only problem is that it's on the other side of the state. He's a cop out in KC so he ordered it through work for me. I'm excited to go pick it up, although it might be awhile now since Joli's still in the hospital from her surgery.

Anyway, I'm getting a Smith & Wesson M&P in .40 cal. Full size, with night sights, and I'll probably be putting a Lasermax UNI-G on the rail as well. :D

He got me a killer price on it too!
