Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find a factory fuel tank and skidplate for my '98 4Runner? I think that any 3rd Gen 4Runner tank should fit. My current tank has... diminished capacity.

They only place I can think of is Airport Auto Wrecking. I think they get almost all of the late model Toyota stuff in the Reno area.

My 4runner suffered from the same affliction. :D After a trip to Johnson Valley, I dropped the stock "skid" plate off, removed the rear seat, the access panel, fuel pump/sender and took a wooden dowl that I had taped up so that it wouldn't splinter and slowly worked out most of the major damage. I ran the tank down to almost empty before I did it. Then I beat the skid plate back into to shape.

Thanks for the suggestions Jack. I did take the skidplate off and try to force compressed air into the tank last weekend, but it was not enough to pop out the dent. I need to fabricate a heavier skidplate (or at least reinforce the stock one) after I get a new tank.

Yup, I saw some at that junk yard yesterday.

The compressed air thing didn't work out well when I tried it on a Honda 750 gas tank, could be the Ingersol Rand industrial towable compressor I used had a little to much pressure/volume.:eek:

So when are you pulling it for me? :flipoff2:

Yeah the tank was "breathing" but the dent would not pop out and stay out. My dad didn't want to put any more pressure to it and risk rupturing anything.
