where to buy cable lockers for 60?

buy cable, air, or constantly engaged and outer wheel travles faster diff?

talk to Greg at G & S Cruisers in Vancouver. I got some through
4 wheel auto in Alberta, but they don't come across them so often. I like that it's stock, I like that it's simple - no electrical, and I like that it's Toyota, because as we all know, they build it right. It will not however be cheap.....but neither is ARB by the time you get someone to crack open your diffs. and fiddle around w/the stuff that is way beyond my expertise.
 
They are obtainable.

I looked into this. To do the job *right* you are going to be investing ~ $5k or more by the time you get finished. Trust me.

If you have your own shop or are a very serious 5 banana (wrench) capable it will be less.

Plus since cable lockers are a mechanical cabled device and what ~ 20 years old or more ??? How do you service the cables ?

Cable lockers too have very tricky shimming requirements. Not trivial.

I prefer lockers which leaves the third member sealed.

I think cable lockers are great and would love to have them on a truck but they are seriously Cruiser Head conosouire (exotic) material.

I'm not trying to discourage just be realistic.

Would *love* to see you get a pair but just realise this *is* the deep end of the swimming pool.

I've had cable lockers on several cruisers, the first one has been six years now. The OEM cables have not been much of a problem. On one cruiser I've used the original cables that the diffs came with, no problems at all with them although they were in use since the late 80's on the donor. The shimming issue comes only when you are regearing and need to set the ring and pinion, even then it's only a one time deal and it's the same exact procedure as the electric locker. No shimming at all when you have complete diffs, the cables require no periodic adjustment just a one time adjustment at the levers at installation.

But I agree it is a steep investment, you have to have a full floater in the rear and need special splined axle shafts in both axles.

Forget cable lockers, just let me buy them all :D :D :D

Cable locker are for sure good idea .. so I need to ask, why not more simple ARB setup . ? proper instalation, means good results. In my case more than 4 years with it and no issue so far.
 
My main issue was reliability and ease of use. Would you say your arb one's fit that statement?

if you can get a hold of a full float rear i would go with the toyota e-locker out of an 80. theres a write up in the tecnical links near the bottom, check it out.
i paid $500 for each locker from car-part.com.
it will require a new axle shaft with longer splins for each axle.

If the ARB is installed correctly then YES they are very reliable and easy to use. Most issues with ARB lockers can be traced directly to a poor install IMHO.

I have installed 3 ARB lockers into Cruiser diffs. None have any issues AFAIK.

Be a lot easier to put in ARB's. They are stronger and at least as reliable. You dont need a full floater rear either.
They engage easier and more reliably than factory electrics too.

YES .. ! I have reliability in 4 years no problems with both .. easy to use .. of course yes .. 3 buttons nd you are really locked .. ! :D
 
You cannot say that a cable locker is more complicated than an ARB.

They have many more potential failure points. Even when installed wrong.

The cable locker can always be engaged by hand if the cable dies..

Both setups come with advantages and disadvantages ..
