Where the H*LL is all my oil going?

Man, I cannot fiigure out why my truck eats so much oil.
I am now running Mobil 1 10W-30 full syn and it is going through about a quart every 1500 - 2000 miles. She runs great, gets about 13 mpg on avg. I did the Blackstone deal on 6K oil and the test showed no excessive wear of rings or anything.
Perhaps the rings are just worn out?
There are really no leaks to speak of.
Any ideas guys?
This is a little frustrating.
Maybe I should just try some 15w50.

leaking underway but not after shutdown.

That is totally normal usage at that mileage. Look for leaks, but don't be suprised if that isn't it.

I found recently that I used 1 quart of Mobil1 0w-40 in 5k miles and normally use no 15w-50 at the same interval.

Switch to Chevron Delo 15w-40 at your next change and see what that does. That's about the best of the conventional oils, it's cheap, and if the consumption goes down, switch over to a higher viscosity synthetic if you wish. At your mileage, I might just run conventional oil, especially in the summer.
 
This little baby has shown me that the quart per 3,000 I was using was going straight into my combustion chambers.

Now it gets caught in the can (along with the water - especially during cooler weather) and dumped into the recycle bin.

BIll- can also be found much cheaper on ebay. See turbocruiser's "project carbon removal" titled post in this forum for more info.

i had similar consumption with the same m1 oil- 1 qt every 3k.
switched to rotella syn and basically no consumption in 2.5k so far.
others have noted same experience.
 
I have the same problem with my 94, -burns- about 1 qt per 1000 miles. After checking many different places as to where it was going I also think mine is lost right through the pcv line.

I can put a separator on the line but why is the oil moving through there? The oil in the line is only a symptom of another malfunction, someone mentioned earlier that a baffle might be out of place?


I also have a wild theory that the infamous egr problems are a result of the oil being burned.

Hey JC...

What weight Rotella did you use to get these results?
 
Rotella 5W-40. I'm changing over on my next oil change.
 
I added a baffle and an extension to the intake fitting to make my Greddy more effective...
