Or someway to just disconnect the radio. It's all original gear on an '97 40th anniv. model. The cassette player portion of the OEM radio went wonky and is draining the battery overnight.
I tried taking out all the fuses in the fuse box just left of the steering wheel one by one but no joy. The cassette player was still cycling like it was trying to load a cassette...but there's no cassette in the deck.
thanks, rScotty

it may depend on the year. pretty sure it's on the dome fuse in my 94, which is in the box under the hood.

you will, naturally, lose dome lights.

otherwise you'll need to remove the dash bezel and the factory stereo. I hear that factory units from particular scion vehicles are popular oem-like replacements with vastly updated technology.

The radio fuse which is likely under the dash on the drivers side fuse panel should do the trick.

I'm not sure on your newer cruiser but you may be able to access the wiring behind the radio by lowering the glove box.

Otherwise, you can pull the bezel that goes from the power mirror switch across the column and over the radio with only a Phillips #2 screw driver and some patience. You'll need to unclip the switches from the wiring harness to remove the bezel. Be careful not to bend the bezel while clearing it from the steering column, or it will crack in the thin point under your gauge cluster.

Once the bezel is removed (which should nt take long maybe 5-10 mins off you're really careful) you can access the four screws/bolts that hold the radio mount in place.

Pull the radio mount, and unclip the wiring harness from the radio.

Now is your chance to upgrade to a newer double din, a single din and a cb, or a single din and a storage pocket.

EWD for a 1996 - looks like the CIG fuse controls the radio.

Dome light, Dash mount, or Cig lighter....I'll look this weekend at all three and post what the solution finally turned out to be.

Darn! I should have mentioned that the 1997 40th Anniv. Toyota Land Cruiser is actually a re-badged 1996 LX450 Lexus....or maybe vice-verse. That piece of info would have made it easier to sort through the wiring.
