Where can I get an H55F at a good price?

Im in the market for an H55F for my '85 FJ60.
I still have to see if it was manufactured before or after 07/85.
I have seen some posts here and one in particular where someone bought an H55F from Toyota dealership in SD for less than $2000 but I can't seem, to find the thread I should of book mark it.

Any one knows where I can get a such a deal Im in the LA/ SD area?

Try talking to a guy named Andrew at Toyota of ElCajon in S.D.
I got mine for 1550.00! Yes thats right 1550+ tax.
I had to wait about 3-4 weeks, but it was new Toyota parts and all above board.

Got mine from Cruiserdan at American Toyota. He is a board supporter and will give you great service and a great price. He also has a list of all the little stuff you need besides the tranny to make the swap go better. Remember to budget at least another $1000 on the other parts you will need when you make the swap. Clutch, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, main seal, shifters, t-case rebuild kit all come to mind. There is a lot more to it than just the tranny.

It was trucked to my address.... it's too heavy for UPS (just barely).
And I got all my other stuff from CDan lke, CDrew mentioned, count on about 1K of other stuff including machine shop work for the flywheel and some of the bearings to be R&Rd.

Maybe not. I called Toyota of El Cajon when I first heard of their $1550 plus shipping deal. They were quoting $75 to truck ship from California to Ft. Worth. I know at least one DFW based FJ60 owner bought one from them, for this price, including shipping. However, since I have such a good relationship with my dealer, they said that they would match or bet the price, including shipping, so I didn't need to order from Toyota of El Cajon. Call them, you just might find it's more reasonable than the cruiserparts.net deal.

I called the closest dealer but they did not know anything about the 5 speed tranny.

If you just did the clutch it should be OK. You don't need to replace the flywheel, just have t resurfaced if it wasn't done when you did the clutch. Replace the rear main seal, Pilot bearing, & throwout bearing if they wern't done when you did the clutch.
I would rebuild the transfer case for sure if it hasn't been done. You have to take it apart anyway when you replace the tranny. The shifter is different, and you'll most likely find a few other things that should be replaced once you're in there, like the clutch lever boot and maybe the speedo cable.
When you do a search you'll find alot of info keyword H55F and read through all the stuff.

Also, you'll save on sales tax, being from out of state, which will deduct from the overall expense.
