Hi All,

I have recently purchased a Landcuiser, supposedly 1990 J70 model (it says LX on back). I am in Africa so these cars tend to have long and unclear histories. I had a hard time looking up information on the car and I was wondering if anyone could help me in finding a VIN number or something similar that would help me to know exactly which year and model (and perhaps what country it was manufactured in)? THanks!

you should be able to find a plate in the engine bay that has the vin, engine model and model number. The plant code is also there.

Try the right side frame behind your tire.
Check dash at windscreen, drivers door panel, engine bay and lastly remove rear barn door plastic moulding and look for lettering stamped into plastic.

A big help is telling us whether it is petrol or diesel , 4cyl ,5cyl or 6 cyl, LWB ,MWB,SWB, pick up ,troop carrier, wagon etc.
The African market vehicles (and nearly all others) are made in the Honsai plant in Japan. The plant code would be A11 on the alloy plate on the firewall.
LX is merely a trim level
