Yesterday I stopped by the local yota dealer and he had a mustard Fj cruiser with MSRP of $23,950.

I am trying to find one for my son... the dealer said it would be impossible to find another one. This was one in a million..( typical dealer talk)
This rig was not loaded but a base vehicle and had everything a kid would want for starters.
Manual Trans, standard mirrors, etc. Cloth interior , spartan but all the essentials were there.

The dealer added
$4,000 for tires and bling wheels ( 5)
$999 for a roof rack
$999 rock sliders
$996 3" lift

anyway it was now aruond $31k

Where can one find a base unit? Has the market softened yet?

thanks

Eat the lift, make the stealer take the wheels back and the3 roof rack and sliders are x2 the right price. See what they'll negotiate...

good luck!

They're selling for sticker price by me. Dealer has a couple w/ all the factory goodies(rock rails, roof rack, etc). I haven't talked to them, but the sticker price is the sticker price.

Don't know where you are, but I'm in Blacksburg, VA zip code 24060.

I'm in Utah.. they will not sell it without the highly inflated bling. I asked.

I am willing to go MSRP sticker at $23,950, just need to find one

I got mine on a pre-order with all the options I wanted for $500 over invoice. Pretty well loaded for $30,200 out the door. I have a signed purchase order and expect to get the rig in a few weeks. It's all about how you present the deal. Even at $500 over invoice the dealer is still making close to a gee wizz when you throw in the dealer holdback and advertising allowance. You gotta ask the salesman....why would you let a G note walk away. If you are willing to wait and pre order, it usually works every time no matter what you are buying. Its' been working for me for many years now.

I'm in a diff distribution market (SET) but I wanted a stripped down model with only 4WD, CQ package, and rear locker. I called/emailed all local dealers and then talked with someone about what I wanted. Most of the options you listed are dealer or port installed options (roof rack, rock rails, wheels). I put a deposit down at two diff dealers and called each of them about every other day.

I also checked the Toyota website to search out VINs arriving near or around my zip code. The 1st dealer took my deposit, wrote my name down and may or may not have done any searching, but the 2nd dealer actually found something close to what I wanted. I wound up getting rock rails($499), all weather mats($169) and roof rack($699) in addition to what I described above. It took me about a month from when I first started calling or about 3 weeks from the time I put my 1st deposit down to get my truck. I got my 1st deposit returned, and the 1st dealer did not seem all that upset that he lost the deal. The 2nd dealer actually found my truck at another dealer about 120 miles away and did a swap to get my truck. It arrived 4 hour after I signed the original sales order and with 121 miles on the odo. I picked it up the next day.

My lesson learned was persistance--just call around until you find a dealer who is actually interested in selling you what you want or pretty darn close. Some dealers were not interested in finding my FJ only in selling what they had on the lot. A few even had delusions of $4K or $5K mark-ups. I quickly dismissed those from my list of dealers I wanted to do business with.

Alternately, I could have held out for EXACTLY what I wanted, but I probably would have had to wait 4 months or longer. You've got to remember that the Upgrade Option packages 1 and 2 are factory installed and in JAPAN. It's not like ordering a Chevy or Dodge from the in-state plant.

Are you having trouble finding Sun Fusion FJs? I have been curious how available they are at this point. I have yet to see a sun fusion on a Toyota lot but plenty of voodoo blue and silver. Not too many black cherry, or black.

Temecula Valley toyota Temecula ca. Had seven FJ on Sunday Nov 12. All price ranges and options. This dealership has had the most fj I have been able to find. Also there is a dealer in Vagas that has quite a few at any given time.

I just picked up my FJ this week... and I must say it was difficult finding the one I wanted, however, I was pretty stubborn about it and waited until they found it. I wanted a yellow one (and listened to the typical "are you SURE you want a yellow one")... wanted a 4x4 (having been offered the deal with $500 over invoice)... and I wanted one without a roof rack, rock rails, etc. I wanted the convenience package and upgrade package, that's it (knowing that I was going to walk over to parts and order the TRD intake, exhaust, and any accessories I wanted like cargo mat, etc). Every time we looked at one in the system, it would have a lot of the add ons (especially the roof rack). We finally found one that I wanted - and it was in transit to a dealer 180 miles away. We put in an "intercept" order and the truck was rerouted up to the Chicago area.

So if you want just a "plain jane" stock FJ with little (or no) options - just insist upon it with the dealer. Bottom line is you may end up having to custom order it from the factory, but prepare to wait about 3 months for it.

One dealer near me has 4 on his lot right now. Two silver, one blue can't remember what the others are.

I went through the Costco auto program and got a decent price. No haggeling.$2000 off msrp.As well as a good trade in price for my 4runner.

My wife & I were wondering the same thing. We both thought the FJ was suppose to be an affordable 4 wheel drive aimed at a younger market. Everyone we have seen is priced at or more than a 4Runner. She has sent emails and called and started a case with Toyota. Seems no dealers want to order one that way even if you agree to put down a deposit and wait " 6-9 months".

what are the big plans if any for the 08 and 09 fj's, any word on crawer boxes or cool crap like that?

So why did the dealer add all that stuff if you wanted a BASIC model? OR.... was it that price before the dealer added it?

Personally I highly doubt you will find a basic FJ. Besides, who wants one without ATRAC, Locker etc???????? It is cheaper just to get it all in one go. No aggravation trying to install stuff yourself taking hours, days or weeks to do... as well, it's done right in the first place. I've had mine several months, don't see many on the road, and figure most of what was made for the year is sold. I don't think the price will come down, on the contrary I think it's going to be heading up!

Wrong! :D I have a base model. With the manual, you get the locker included for nothing extra. Also, the A-track cost me nothing to install. You can add the switch, or a hunk of wire to make it work. I have saved multiple thousands of dollars by buying the base, and adding what I want.

Ryan - Can you give me some details (or point me in the right direction) on the A-Track addition, as I plan on doing this myself as well. Thanks!!

I really don't think FJ's for $23K exist. Toyota realized they had a high demand vehicle so almost all the ones they are shipping here are all loaded up with options. I have been searching high and low for an FJ for $25k or less and have been very frustrated. I also wanted a black diamond with 4x4 and a manual trans. Finally, one day last month I was looking at a local dealer inventory on the internet and there it was. A black diamond 6sp manual trans 4x4 which happened to have all the other goodies on it --off road package-- rock rails, roof rack, skid plates, tow hitch. Sticker was $31,500.00. I managed to work them down to $29k and bought the damn thing. What the hell, you only live once. Couldn't be happier.

I live in Northeast Ohio and I am in search of some 4x4 trails to take her out on. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.:)
